Great Project Historical Anecdotes (Ironman Compatible)

Description
Summary
Have you ever thought: 'man, I really wish that I could get a bit more historical information about the Notre Dame. I mean, I know it's in Paris, and it's probably a church, but it would be nice with more details...'

Well, have no fear, citizen, now there exists a mod for that!

(BTW, if you end up liking it, please do remember to give it a thumbs up.)

Content: What exactly does this mod do?
This mod adds a paragraph of historical* information to All 133** of the great projects, now including canals!

I have attempted to make sure time of construction, primary significance, and potentially destruction are included in all of them.

*The info/text is mostly taken from Wikipedia, so of course it could have been written by anyone. I also did not deeply study any page. Still, I think it's a helpful pointer! Some is also taken from UNESCO WHC, credit etc further down the description.

**Technically correct, but do note that four 'seperate' Great Projects share the same description, as they are in reality one project spread across four provinces. China builds big.

Keep in mind, the text has been somewhat reordered (etc) for relevance (such as removing mentions of location and redundancy (particularily of Great Project names), and choosing only the text the creator thought relevant at the time, for the purpose of being 'short and informative'). This is done in good faith, not to misinform.

Keys

As original site formatting and EU4 formatting do not always play nice, here is a list of the tools I had to employ, and their meanings.
  • (individual letter inside): this is done for letters with certain peculiarities EU4 Does Not Like, such as the french e'. It merely means: 'special version of this letter'.
  • (depicted: *insert item here*). This is for when the image of the great project does not capture the breadth of the project itself. For example; Petra displays an ancient temple, when in reality it was an entire ancient city.

Compatibility

This mod should be perfectly compatible with any mod that does not add 'desc' localization to the great projects!

Planned Additions
  • None! Maybe if new great projects are added.

Constructive Criticism
It is very welcome! I do not consider myself particularily experienced with modding, so if you have a suggestion or something, do feel free to share.

Keep in mind that I make NO guarantees to actually do anything, though.

Yo, PDX!

If anyone from Paradox dev team happens upon this, feel free to add something like it in the base game! I mean, obviously you could anyway, the terms grant you the right to yoink mods as you want if I read it correctly. This is just an extra 'go for it!' I'd love to be credited for the idea, but even if I'm not I'd still be pleased, because I think PDX has better fact checkers than one guy skimming wikipedia. Have a good one!

Credit (etc)
All the content (historical text) is drawn from either Wikipedia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page ) or UNESCO WHC ( https://whc.unesco.org/ ). By their respective copyright policies, I am obligated to declare that all content taken/remixed from their sites is available under the same terms it was on their sites, and to provide links to those policies:
I am also required to give credit to each individual article, and as such I have listed them below (NOTE: DUE TO TEXT CAPACITY, GREAT PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS 51-ONWARDS ARE CREDITED IN RESPECTIVE PATCH NOTES) grouped by subject, declared in () when not sourced from wikipedia (warning: long list ahead):

As I am about to update the title of the mod to indicate (can't believe I hadn't already) it very much is Ironman compatible.

Is this Iroman-compatible?

So, to give a full answer to your question, as I have now finished the base mod: Nope! Sorry.
This was a fair amount of effort, so I don't feel like going through more.

I don't mind if anyone else does it though! As long as they credit me for the original idea (if they got it from my mod, that is). If such a person were to ask, I would tell them how I did it.

np dude take your time
Hargeon Green  [author] 14 Feb, 2023 @ 1:41am
Uh, my guy, I've yet to even get through all the vanilla monuments. The only thing I can say is: Maybe in the distant future sometime. Glad you like it!

Great mod, could you also please add a version which adds descriptions for the monuments expanded mod?
