Fixing the Low Frame Rate Issue Guide

In this guide, I will show you step by step about how to fix the low frame rate issue with the game as easily understandable as possible. When you first install and play it for the first time, you may notice that the main part of the game plays at around 20 - 30 fps, regardless of your PC Specs. This is an issue that has never been corrected since the game was released on Steam and with this fix, you'll be able to play the game at around 60 FPS.

Step 1: Download HxD - Freeware Hex Editor and Disk Editor

Go to this link: https://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/

Scroll down the download link page (shown circled) and select your language to download HxD. I'm using English in this case, but they should all apply the same.

Once downloaded, extract the file, delete the original zipped file, and open it up.

Simply select and follow the installation guide like any other program. Agree to the terms and finish up.

Step 2: Opening up HxD and Changing the Hex Value

NOTE: Be sure to follow the instructions for this part carefully! Otherwise you may end up editing and saving the wrong Hex Value and may have to start all over by uninstalling and reinstalling the game again.

Once installed, Click on HxD, go on file and select open.

Select "oXXL2Game.exe" in your program files.

Once opened, you'll come across a large list of Hex values that look like this.

Open up search with Ctrl+F and select Hex values. Copy and Paste the value: 55 8B EC 56 8B 75 08 8B 06 80 38 00 74 0F

Select okay and you should find it instantly. Should be located on Offset 0064AD70.

Highlight the first 3 bytes (55 8B EC) and replace them with the following: C2 04 00

Save and exit out.

Step 3: Finishing Up

Open up Asterix and Obelix: XXL 2 after editing and you should see an improvement in performance with at least 60 fps as shown here at the top right corner.

After that, than you're done! Most people will ask you to make a copy of your exe file but in my case, I didn't have to. Hope this helps you out!

This did work for me, the game runs smoothly now.

@Freeman
I think it has to do with the BAK file generated after modifying the exe file.
I cut the broken exe file and pasted it into a different folder, fixed said exe file using the hex editor, then i pasted the newly fixed executable back into the game's folder.
I left the generated BAK file inside the other folder.
Freeman, the fixed executable shouldn't look like a blank icon, that's the BAK file generated with the hex editor, so it's won't run properly.
