You're not. You can't change it. I stopped working on the mod before making it changeable.

Running around means this: After stopping in the station the loco uncouples the cars, pulls forward over a (in this case imaginary) switch. Then it drives backwards around the cars (hence the term 'running around') and couples to the other side of the cars.
Gameplay-wise it basically is a push-pull plus moving the engines to the other side of the train
