Achievement info and some problems

This achievement is pretty much straight-forward. All you need to do is beat your friend's time in any Time Trial course.

The first problem arises when looking for your friend, since this game does not has a "Friends Tab", you'll need to manually look for your friend in the Global Leaderboards and download his/her ghost.

(My Alt "Friend")

So...yeah, you got to go through the trouble of finding your friend first.

But, here comes the major problem.

A Friend In Speed Is A Friend Indeed Achievement not unlocking

Even after beating your friend's time, the achievement doesn't pop up.

I tested if the achievement was bugged or something, but no, unlocked it normally after a single try in my Alt, against my Main's time.

The major problem is... your Friend List.

No, seriously, if you have too many people added on Steam, this achievement bugs for some reason.

The solution

Block everyone in your Friend List, except that friend who's time you want to beat.

If you have too many friends added on Steam, you'll need to block everyone.

Don't worry, blocking does not unfriend them.

Proceed to your Friends List tab (on your profile, just click "Friends"), then manage your Friend List.

Check mark every single one of them, except that friend.

Aaaand...block them.

And now, let's test again.

After doing it again, the achievement unlocks, first try and no problems.

After you're done, don't forget to unblock your friends, by check marking everyone again and clicking the "unblock" button.

The beta mentioned in this post could also fix your problem.

Right click your game > Properties... > Betas

Then type "TeamSonicRacing" and check the code.

Apply the beta, open the game and give it another shot.

One last shot in the dark, but there's still hope. I was clueless of what was this really specific issue (where none of the methods worked). But, user Mauritsio seems to have made a breakthrough.

As stated in the user comments section:

"The magic number for "too many people added" appears to be 100. Blocking everyone except the friend whose ghost you're trying to beat definitely helps, but it's possible the achievement still won't show up afterwards, which was the case for me.

If you're also in that scenario, try this:

- If you group your Steam friends into categories, remove those categories. Even if you have your friends blocked, having them categorised will (apparently) still cause the game to try to cache them.

- Exit the game and restart Steam after you've blocked everyone and/or removed the categories. The game won't register the changes to your friends list otherwise."

I have set up an easy Bronze time in Planet Wisp - Doctor's Mine with my Alt.

The magic number for "too many people added" appears to be 100. Blocking everyone except the friend whose ghost you're trying to beat definitely helps, but it's possible the achievement still won't show up afterwards, which was the case for me.

If you're also in that scenario, try this:

Me and my friends were able to unlock the achievement by finding each other on the leader board and selecting the time from there to race against that specific ghost, worked for all of us. Can take some time to scroll through the leader board but better than blocking everyone. Hope this helps anyone else!

I'm not sure if it is just me...but I feel like the achievement is getting buggier by the time. I recommend exhausting every method, including verifying the integrity of the game files.

I'll keep helping, but I'll ask to bear with me if the achievement doesn't unlock first try. I won't go away until I see it unlocked.
