Playing with a controller
Playing with a controller should be easy as it is advertised on the store page right?
Well, sadly Ubi has decided to pick the wrong default controller scheme.. This is how you fix it:

EDIT: Looks like UbiSoft updated their default controller scheme, however if you still run into issues feel free to read on!

On desktop:

  1. Shift+Tab to open the Steam Overlay

  2. Click on Controller Configuration

  3. Continue on Step 3 from the Big Picture segment below

On Big Picture Mode (The new one):

  1. Navigate to Controller settings

  2. Click on the button "Controller Settings"

  3. Click on the "Current Layout" (Above view layout)

  4. Navigate to templates, and select gamepad

  5. Done, your end result looks something like this:

Your controller now should work as intended.

If not, try to use software like DS4Windows (PS3, PS4, PS5)[ds4-windows.com] or DsHidMini (PS3, PS4)[github.com] on windows if you're using a dualshock/dualsense as xbox controllers seem to have native support.

For other controllers it might be worth looking into x360ce[x360ce.com] or rewasd (paid software) [rewasd.com], haven't used it myself but it looks promising.
Playing on Deck
If you want to play this game on Steam Deck, you have to do a little bit of tinkering as by default it may say Uplay isn't running.

Here's the steps:

  1. Navigate to and select the game

  2. Select the gear icon all the way on the right

  3. Navigate and select properties

  4. Navigate to Compatibility

  5. Toggle the "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" on

  6. Select Proton 7.0-X (I used 7.0-5 at the time of writing this)

  7. Launch the game

  8. Sign into UbiSoft Connect (Tip: you can use Steam+X to open the virtual keyboard)

Your game should now run on Steam Deck

Playing online
There's two ways to play online, so I'm dividing it into two segments;

Game's own online method:
Playing the game with random people is easy, go to network game and create/join a random public lobby.

If you want to play with your friends however, here's the steps:

  1. Add your friends to your UbiSoft Connect friends list.

  2. Go to "NETWORK GAME"

  3. Create a private match and select your character

  4. Navigate to a stage and select it

  5. Press the "INVITE FRIENDS" button

  6. If it says "You need to be in a multiplayer game session to send a game invite", Close this window and navigate back to the home menu and go back to step 2, UbiSoft's launcher doesn't update properly.. (A Keyboard/Mouse required to close this window) Alternatively if it doesn't say this, invite your friends!

If this still doesn't work, this was suggested in the comments:

A solution I found to fix that is by making a public lobby first and then creating a private one.

Steam Remote Play:
While it is advertised on the Steam Store page, this method does NOT work from my experience.

The other player just hangs on "Waiting for other player to return to the game", or something along those lines.
UbiSoft's share play function doesn't work either, it just throws an error afaik.

I recommend using a service like for example parsec.app until they fix this.

Backing up saves
Yes, this game doesn't sync saves.
Navigate to C:\Users\[User Name]\Saved Games\Scott on windows and back it up somewhere when you need it.
(Google drive supports you syncing a folder, could be used for that)

Known bugs and how to deal with them
Unable to interact/enter doors
Sometimes you can't enter a door or interact with something, which is my favorite feature!!
All you have to do is get damaged.
Throw an object against yourself or fall into a pit, this should fix it.
(Objects reflect on the edge of a level, or ask a friend)

Desyncs
The game may desync at times, if only remote play worked :)
There isn't a proper solution for this, just restart your network session or re-enter a level.
If it's happening a lot I recommend trying out Parsec like mentioned before.

Controller randomly not working
This may happen, and I have no solution as to why.
a w e s o m e ! !

Health not showing
Enter a shop to fix this.
(Or be a chad and play without knowing how much health you have!)

Game volume quiet
Not sure why but UbiSoft doesn't want us to listen to this awesome soundtrack or something.
The best thing you can do is turn up your tv/headset, if you're unable to there is a guide on modifying the game here.

They mixed this poorly on PC and is fine on consoles.

Check out the band on YouTube, they make some kickass tracks and worth a listen.

Achievements not working
They didn't add Steam Achievements and the in app pop-ups for UbiSoft Achievements don't show up, they do track however within UbiSoft connect.

Just open the UbiSoft launcher and look in there, this cannot be opened from the game itself as it hangs on an infinite loading screen.

Denuvo
Refund.

Tips
  • After quitting the game, close UbiSoft Connect.
It may randomly appear after a while telling you it's signed out, thus un-focussing what you were doing.
(I lost a ranked race online by driving at full speed into a wall, thanks UbiSoft very cool!)

  • If you plan to play this on a trip/on deck, be sure to play launch the game with an internet connection within 5 days beforehand. As Denuvo will block you from playing the game you bought

End
Thanks for reading through this!
If you have any tips, additions, solutions or suggestions, feel free to reach out in the comments below.

If I have time I'll update it around.

Remote Play is definitely an option nowadays it at least worked for me and 3 of my buds at the same time and we are dispersed all across Canada and the U.S with varying internet qualities.

I would recommend giving it a shot for people reading this if they have a friend or two interested it also allows people who don't own the game to play it, Try it out for yourselves!

I have also had previous experience doing the Obscure series with Remote Play and the second player was consistently able to react and kite enemies without any issues and that's a Survival horror game.

Thank you sm! I just got the game so hopefully the bugs I'll encounter should be more simple to take care of now.

You know the stupidest thing about Ubi's control schemes? The reason this happens is them not utilizing any Steam integration except the most basic one. This happens with almost all of their titles and it really makes me sick.
