Description
Tired of your PC lagging when mining due to all small rocks floating about in space colliding?
Tired of picking up all the rocks floating in space after a mining job?

Don't be tired, The Column is your solution. Developed at Fox Engineering, the Column will increase your mining efficiency rate up and pick up all the debris of rocks the drills is incapable of picking up them-self.

To describe this technology in words is a challenge and it needs to be seen to experience the work in action but I'll attempt to explain: It uses a cluster of directional gyroscopes to create a custom gravity-field that funnels all the ore into a collector.

The ship is capable of digging through entire asteroids but works to to surface mining as-well however it takes some time to learn how to operate this ship as it can brake if its not piloted correctly. Being too rough while mining, the drills can brake or the tail can be damaged.

101 Piloting the Column
1. Dont force the ship in the asteroid holding W all the time while mining, let the drills do their job and just follow along into the hole as it expands.
2. Slow down before letting the drills hit the rock wall.
3. Use the 3rd person view to make sure the ship is not hitting anything
4. while tunnel mining at frequent times rotate the ship (Q & E) and also move little bit up/down and to the sides (A/D/C(Spacebar) Or use the right mouse button at frequent times (note this is not as resource efficient as the previous but its faster)
5 while tunnel mining keep the tail centered in the tunnel at all times
6. In order for the auto-debris collector field to work properly the drill-head needs to be facing a solid surface example: an asteroid wall or end of a drill hole

This ship is a submission to the LSG fleet contest. For more details visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxpV6JoJGQo&list=UUftK-tQH9-Pp68v6ImVbrzA

allright, Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Fox. This is a solid build. The only thing that I changed was I took the forward facing thrusters out of the "Drill Head" and put them at the rear of the ship. This allows for a bit more aggressive drilling. The only other suggestion I have would be to make it a little longer so you can have a second large cargo container. With the amount of drills it has it doesnt take long to fill it :) Thumbs up!

I dont like to waste rock too, if you think this ship is then you are mistaken. thank you for your input

oh no, all my collectors are 8 to 10 blocks behind the drills. The collectors are facing foward and run along a collector ring. that looks like a dish, and they send the all ore to the crates. I'm not trying to irritate, just make a point or suggestion. I just don't like to waste ore or rock it just makes it harder to clean up.

@TelekineticApe. in the back.

@nin8302. Great that you have your design working for you, this design works aswell with 0 loss I would say thats effective?.
Tho every collector requres more components, and for every collector you have in the head of the drill you loose a space for a drillbit perhaps loss of efficency?. There are countless of ways to do things nin, mine is just one of many you dont need to be so upset about it.

how do i get in it

come down fox. there are countless ways to do things. I have done miining rigs that are 22 blocks long have 8 hoopers and 28 drills. And the cool thing now is that it can auto mine, due to the update last week. That rig does not waste one rock. I'm just talking about efficiency, thats all.

you are missing the whole point of this ship. Because of the gravity generators you only need 1 hopper allowing you to have more drillheads in the front. No ore is lost.

but if there are more hoppers then it could gather much more ore. Instead of thowing awy good ore

@nin8302. one would not work, There is only one collector and the drillhead is covering such a large area that by simply having grav generator would fling debrie out on the sides of the drillhead.
