Vatican Split From Rome

Description
This mod splits the barony of Vaticano from the county of Rome into its own county, this will allow you to take Rome and still keep the Pope landed in the Vatican.


This mod changes the major decision "Restore Pope in Rome" to "Restore Pope in Vaticano" which will transfer the county of Vaticano from you to the Pope.

This mod also introduces the major decision "Restore Pope in Vaticano as Your Vassal".
In order to do this decision you will have to take every title from the Pope except the Papacy title.

Control of Rome has also been changed to control of Vaticano in the "Mend the Great Schism" decision.


The mod is somewhat compatible with previous saves, it will separate Vaticano from Rome, but will have a randomized CoA and 0 development.

This mod chages the files:
  • common/decisions/80_major_decisions_roman.txt.
  • common/landed_titles/00_landed_titles.txt.
  • common/religion/holy_sites/00_holy_sites.txt.
  • history/povinces/k_romagna.txt.
  • The religion_l_-language-.yml file for english, french, simple chinese and spanish.
This mod also adds lines to the character_triggers and landed_title_triggers localization files.

This mod makes relatively small changes to these files, so making compatches for other mods, with certain exceptions, can be done on request.

Nothing will happen until All Under Heaven DLC and the update comes out though, when that happens i'll probably include the regency along with the update to fit with the new game version.
By then, for that other mod, i might also have been able to figure out the scope, whether something similar already exists (if so i won't make it), done the (shallow) research into how kings and emperors influenced the papacy, and whether it is possible to do with what's available to modders.

Just to clarify, you the emperor would become the regent of the Pope?

I could probably do that at some point.

I remember someone asking a while ago about possibly making a separate mod for the Avignon Papacy. I have sort of thought about that idea a bit, and have thought up the idea of creating a way to gain influence over the papacy, like powerful kings and emperors did have in the middle ages, so that you yourself could form something along the lines of the Avignon Papacy, like the Essex Papacy or the Vestfold Papacy depending on where in the world you are when you gather enough influence to do so.

That regency feature might be removed from this mod eventually depending on whether i do make that mod or not though, integrating it into that instead, but that also depends on the scope of that mod.

Can you make it so that you Restore Pope in Vaticano as Your Vassal, you would enter an entrench regency with the pope?

@sunsetcountry, updated, the map looks correct now.

On the map you will still find some bugs, like for Lord Takamochi in Japan, leader of the duchy: "The dynasty_name_10007154 Family" or Kami Otohito of Hida, member of the proud dynasty: "dynasty_name_10007392". But these are MB+ bugs, as i doubbled checked if they still appeared when i ran the game with only that.

Hello @Bratakstator, thank you for your tireless work on this mod. It's been much appreciated by me and others. I'd just like to report this to you, I have no idea if it's just me, or if others have this problem as well. But I'll leave this IMGUR link as I've taken pictures and talked more in detail about what happened. Thank you for your time!

@King of salt. I am not sure you can disable models for specific counties, as i believe they're tied to buildings / holding types. I can take a look at it at some point soon, but probably won't be able to do anything about the models.

@macintosh1257. I don't think RICE modifies a single base game file, at least not any this mod also touches, so RICE itself should be compatible with most mods, including this one.
