EMD SD70MAC
(template)

This engine is ESS2 and WABSIM compatible
History

The EMD SD70MAC is a C-C 4000 Horsepower Roadswitcher built from 1993 to 2004. The MAC was very similar to the SD70M however used a slightly larger frame and was equipped with AC traction motors. It was also the first modern road locomotive to utilize AC traction motors the way it is used today. The locomotive's main competitor was GE’s AC4400CW locomotive that was developed around the same time and released later the same year. The SD70MAC offered Electrical Traction motor blowers compared to the mechanical blowers of past, something GE would not offer till the Evolution series. Later models would also be capable of 4300 Horsepower.

The locomotive was relatively popular with many units being bought by BNSF, Conrail, and TFM, a Mexican subsidiary of KCS that would be absorbed into KCS earning the MACs a southern belle scheme. Conrail’s units went to both Norfolk southern and CSX who still operate them (while Norfolk southern mutilates them). Alaska railroad also purchased plenty, with a couple being equipped with head end power for passenger operation.

The SD70MAC was still weaker and less comfortable than the GE menace. It suffered poor efficiency, a rough ride, a cab that reeked of exhaust, and would burn through engine oil like you wouldn’t believe.
These problems have led to them starting to disappear from modern class 1 rosters as they become expensive to maintain and operate. However tier 4 locomotives are proving to be expensive and high maintenance, leaving many class 1's pulling them out of storage and/or rebuilding them, mostly to SD70MACe specifications. They can still be seen commonly by the railways that operate them.

Startup

Open the fuse cabinet, Located on the back wall of the cab and flip all breakers on. Then flip the "Battery Knife Switch" in the electrical cabinet in the short hood of the locomotive, hit the "Engine Run" "Generator Field" and "Fuel Pump" switches on the control stand, then hold the "Start Sequence" button on the rear wall of the cab until the sound of the engine balances out. Isolate the engine, cut in brakes, hit the reverser buttons in whatever direction you desire, "R" being backward "-" being neutral and "F" being forward, and you are ready for operation.

@Krzysiek009 i dont really think thats an issue of the locomotive, you may have something wrong with your tracks, as i have never even heard of that issue until now

Hey the train derails the second it loads for me, just like your other ones, any fix for that?
