Description
UNSTABLE VERISON of Mechtrauma for testing.

!WARNING!
Mechtrauma will not work properly without these mods installed and enabled:
  • Modding Toolkit
  • Cs For Barotrauma
  • Lua For Barotrauma




Introduction:
Mechtrauma is a flexible overhaul mod that significantly increases the depth and complexity of most maintenance systems in Barotrauma. Keeping a submarine operational can now require a competent and engaged engineering team. Maintenance is no Longer a tedious marathon of clicking repair on anything that breaks.

Mod compatibility:
Mechtrauma overrides very little vanilla content and instead focuses on adding new content and functionality. As a result, Mechtrauma is extremely compatible with other mods.

Mechtrauma Submarines:
Balance and implementation decisions are made by the sub designer as they can choose to use any combination of Mechtrauma and Vanilla machines. Consequently, Mechtrauma requires a submarine designed to use the Mechtrauma mod.

Game Mechanics:



Machine Parts:
Critical machines require and consume individual parts. These parts are, in turn, fabricated out of smaller components.

Machine Upgrades:
Mechtrauma machines can be upgraded and swapped in the shipyard in the same way that turrets are. Are your pumps not powerful enough? Buy larger pumps! Is your generator too small? Buy a bigger one!


New Power Grids:
There are three new types of power in Mechtrauma:
  1. Steam - high pressure steam from a boiler or steam generator .
  2. Kinetic - mechanical shaft from a turbine or a diesel engine.
  3. Thermal - heat from a reactor or heat exchanger.

These power types are controlled through connection types. You cannot directly connect different types of power together on the same pin but you can convert the power types inside of an item. For example, a steam boiler accepts electrical power and outputs steam power and a steam turbine accepts steam power and outputs kinetic power.


Diving Suit Deterioration and Extended Pressure Protection (EPP):

In Mechtrauma, Diving Suits slowly deteriorate while being used but they can be repaired. This makes them a more precious resource that shouldn't be used when needed. Additionally, Diving Suits provide protection up to 2x max depth; however, the diving suit will take exponential damage the further you go past max depth.

Low pressure diving suits (2500m and under) only take 50% deterioration damage while being worn and are cheap to repair. This makes them an excellent option for repairing the submarine as the extended pressure protection should last long enough to get you to safety in an emergency.

Mechtrauma adds more than 100 new items but here are some highlights:



New Gear


Traditionalists, fear not, the vanilla diving suits are still available in the mod. However, they have been re-balanced.
Suits with headlamps now require batteries for the light to function and suits are no longer fireproof - you shouldn't fight fires with explosive materials in your inventory. If you're going to fight a fire, make sure to use a fire resistant oxygen tank. The Mechtrauma specialized gear does pack a few advantages such as dedicated storage for tools, support for larger oxygen tanks, and specialized damage reduction.


Diesel Generators
!MECHTRAUMA DOES NOT ELIMINATE NUCLEAR REACTORS!
Diesel generators are intended to be used as alternative power for low end submarines and as backup/emergency power for high end submarines. Mechtrauma generators are not re-skinned reactors, they are fully custom and purpose built and they come in all different shapes and sizes depending on the situation.


Steam Powertrain
A powerful but maintenance intensive alternative to vanilla electric engines. Steam comes from a Boiler and is fed into a Turbine that powers the Reduction Gear. All of these machines have different parts and consumables that are required to function.


Oxygen Supply - A rebalanced oxygen generator with penalties for allowing it to go offline.

The Oxygen supply fills the hulls with oxygen and the oxygen tank refill stations use compressors to remove oxygen from the hull and compress it into tanks. Additionally, there are
Oxygen Stations will quickly fill an oxygen bottle from a larger tank. The oxygen stations will also release oxygen into the hull in the event that oxygen levels drop too low.

Mechtrauma Tablets
These handy dandy Tablets will make managing your submarine much easier!

Maintenance Tablet Reports: Power Consumption, Co2 Filter Status, Pump Status, and Fuse Status
Medical Tablet Reports: Hematology (NT Required), Pharmacy Inventory


Oxygen Vents
Oxygen vents require a Co2 filter or crew in the area will begin to experience symptoms of carbon dioxide poisoning. Mold and fungus can grow in these vents as well. It is important to keep them clean and if you find any fungus, make sure to analyze it and make an antibacterial shot for anyone that was infected.



Water Pumps
The Mechtrauma pumps come in all different shapes and sizes! They require electric motors to operate. The electric motors are craftable parts that wear out with use so be sure to keep an eye on them and make sure they aren't broken or your pumps wont work.





Refill Stations

Specialized Fabricators - while not required, these specialized fabricators can make life a lot easier.


Battery Banks - Large battery banks have a vast storage capacity; however, they are disabled when underwater. Water resistant battery banks still output while submerged.


New Electrical Panels - Mechtrauma panels accept sacrificial fuses that give significant protection for over voltage and deterioration damage. However, the fuses wear out and need to be replaced regularly. An Electrical Panel will operate without a fuse but runs the risk of starting a fire and a Fuse Panel will simply shut off without a fuse.

Would be nice to see a regular diesel engine, with variable RPM for historical accuracy, since the generator&buffering-batteries-build are not fun enough... Could be louder than regular electric engines, while offering variable pure torque power (and requiring a dynamo to generate electricity as well!).
It's just that the nuclear power becomes soo boring after some time, since it is relatively difficult to screw up reactor mainenance, even on haz reactors mod. It would be so much more fun to finally be able to utilize different engine types in a single submarine, for different purposes (high-power diesel, stealthy electric, steam power-chonker, etc.) Also, this would finally give a real purpose to the on-sub oxygen storage tanks, built alongside oxygen generator.

Still, this mod literally brought me & the boys back to this game, so pls keep it rolling!

How do you stop the oxygen from leaking out of the vanilla suits?

Hello, the mod is very extensive and interesting in description, I’m thinking of trying it on a large assembly of the mod and here are a few questions:
1 what is the difference between alpha and unstable (well, besides the obvious fact that unstable... unstable) and how often alpha is updated
2 this is compatibility.. yes it is said that it should be compatible with many, but here is a list that I have doubts about:robotrauma,Enhanced Reactors,a derivative of 2 dangerous reactor mods, these are Hazardously Enhanced Reactors,and the most important (for me) is immersive repairs,also NT cybernetic
3 is it possible to add items from the mod, roughly speaking, to the ability to buy an upgrade for a boat that has only vanilla assets,that is,replace standard shields with your own, or add diesel or steam generators in a new location?
4 the final question, this is an addition to question 2,will you make patches yourself for compatibility with mods or will you outsource it to the community?
