Technical review
The model was introduced in May 1985 as a replacement for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Alfetta, with which it shares many components. Designed by Ermanno Cressoni at the Alfa Romeo Style Center. The body was made in the form of an impact wedge, tapering towards the front with rectangular headlights and a matching radiator mesh. The salon was distinguished by an advanced diagnostic computer for its time, which monitored the status of systems and warned drivers of potential problems and malfunctions.

Technical solutions were also a feature. The mechanics were almost perfectly balanced in terms of rear / front, which was achieved by installing a 5-speed gearbox at the rear connected to a rear differential (the so-called Transaxle). The rear disc brakes were mounted on the gearbox housing. The front part of the suspension is a combination of a torsion bar and a shock absorber, and at the rear there is an expensive “de Dion” suspension with shock absorbers; this choice was due to efforts to optimize the handling of the car. The crankshaft of the engine is connected directly to the propeller shaft, which runs along the bottom of the car from the engine to the gearbox. The rotating segments were connected with elastic couplings to prevent vibration and damage to the engine and box.
