The BGM-4 Albatross surface to surface missile
The BGM-4 Albatross is a large, long range, heavy, moderately complex surface to surface missile. It can be used against sea and land targets with considerable effectiveness. Due to its long range and active homing radar, it has very little use against all but the slowest air targets. One of the most innovative features of the Albatross is the use of two homing radars. The first radar detects and guides towards targets at long range, then, after the missile closes within 2 km of the target, it will switch to a second radar with much shorter range but a much larger field of view. This means it can be used effectively against even fast-moving surface targets with little trouble. The Albatross also houses a second rocket motor, used for additional speed in the terminal phase, or to increase its range by roughly 1.2 km.

Features
  • A two-phase radar homing system
  • A large, front-mounted warhead for maximum damage potential
  • Long range, in excess of 13 km depending on launch parameters
  • A smaller secondary motor to make terminal phase interception more difficult
  • Simple integration and operation

The Albatross is a very large missile, and usually has to be specifically mounted to its launch platform. It is best suited to a stationary missile battery or emplacement due to its lock-on at launch limitations. An air-launched variant is also in the works, designed to be dropped from the back of a cargo aircraft. As with all other current ACT missiles, the Albatross must be launched against a known target, or at least in the general direction of one.

CAUTION!
The Albatross can and will attempt to intercept any and all radar contacts between it and its intended target. If you don't want to sink civilian or friendly ships, be sure there are none in the area at launch.

The name "Albatross" refers to the long range and high maximum altitude of the BGM-4, its slow speed meaning it can stay airborne for more than a minute before gliding back to earth.
