KSRE - Kovas' States Rework: Expanded

Description
Available for the 1.16+ Update!

About
Kovas' States Rework: Expanded is a continuation mod of the original KSR which brings back with it many previously removed fan-favorite features, such as state renaming and custom subjects. Players will now be able to restore certain historical borders, bend territory alongside natural barriers like rivers and make use of underlooked landmasses. Among new states that were implemented, a significant amount of vanilla states have also been changed and improved.

F.A.Q.
"Can you return the old map?"
The old vanilla map used for KSRE will not be returned. It is simply not a good map to work on as it is very disproportionate to actual world maps, mainly due to Paradox's optimization efforts. An independent vote suggested that those who prefer the old map are in a very small minority, so the return of the vanilla map will not be considered. However, those who want to play KSRE on the old map may do so by redirecting to the "Discussions" tab and checking out the "Legacy Versions" page where the previous version of the mod is available for download.

I acknowledge that the new map is a shock to many and it may look unusual, however it is actually a better portrayal of the world map as it is a 1:1 replica of the Mercator Projection (the most popular flattened portrayal of the world and the exact version found on Google Maps). The old vanilla map was disproportionately stretched sideways with a lot of misplaced landmasses (South America etc), but a lot of us have gotten used to it over the years, which is why some places now look uncomfortably stretched.

"When is the next update?"
Updates are not being released on a fixed schedule. I update the mod whenever I have the time and motivation personally. Pressing updates such as critical bug fixes can be expected more often.

"Why is the Rhineland not being fully demilitarized?"
This is a go-to check for mod conflict. KSRE has absolutely no bugs in terms of the Rhineland as it was tested over several years, which means you are running additional mods that affect focus trees.

"Can you make compatiblity for X mod?"
KSRE is a base map mod, which means that compatiblities should not be initiated by me but rather by the author of the other mod in question. I am, however, fully open to the idea of modders making compatiblity mods for KSRE.

"Can you make compatiblity for other languages?"
The mod currently only supports English localisation as this is the only language from the game that I know on a C-level basis. However, submods for KSRE translations into various other languages do exist on the Workshop.

"Why do I see empty spots all over the map after using the mod?"
This is because KSRE needs to be played on a brand new save. For example, loading vanilla save games with KSRE creates conflict.

to be abudantly clear, im ok with the decision, just curious why? is it ubiquity alone, or did you have more reasons. Love the mod to death.

Im honestly with turtle 360, why not, say, peters (accurate sized, or as close as can be on flat)
Turtle 360 27 Aug @ 3:27pm
why not use a more accurate to real life projection than going for mercator which is not very accurate and is stretched

Hi, can you add the historical borders of German Kamerun and Neukamerun of 1911-14? Also, Kaiser-Wilhelmsland is a bit inaccurate; German Togo had a part that was incorporated into British Ghana

I've been much too busy with doing EU4 hours to play HOI4 lately and so I cannot comment on the functionality, but I can say... yes, we've been thoroughly corrupted by Paradox map proportions. If this mod's perspective feels weird to you now then that's because it's new to you after however long we've been looking at Paradox's borked maps.
If you got yourself used to the mess that is Paradox projection then you can definitely get used to any Mercator projection weirdness if you let yourself. It hasn't even been a full month anyway, not long enough to reject something without looking like you've unreasonably tried to reject.

And tbh? My HOI4 experience was becoming quite stagnant (I didn't start playing EU4 just on a random whim). Goodness knows I'd welcome a big grand overhaul like this one just to keep the game feeling fresh and interesting in a way Paradox won't. KSRE is for certain gonna stay on my "top-priority" modlist should I get back to regularly playing HOI4.
