Expanded Japanese Interest Groups

Description
This is a mod I created to make the interest groups and political situation for Shogunate Japan a little more complex and immersive, taking advantage of the game's systems for interest groups to flesh out this era of Japanese history a little more.

When I first played, I was disappointed that the Shogunate and Imperial House were conflated. It felt like there was no way to represent the interests of the daimyo as opposed to that of the imperial house. Doing a little digging, I decided to overhaul the Shogunate interest group situation and alter the Meiji reformation events accordingly.

Two new interest groups are added to the game. While I figure out some finer details about interest groups, two *kinds* of additional interest groups have been added to every country as well as Japan. They are:

1. Imperial House (Generic: Old Money)
Will behave like more xenophobic landowners and draw only from the aristocracy.

2. Tozama Daimyo (Generic: Crime Bosses)
Outsider bourgeoisie, or specifically non-Fudai daimyo, without much loyalty to the central economy.

These IGs are designed to work with the new Shogunate Japan. They may be interesting in the way they appear and behave in other countries, but it's not something I've looked at too closely beyond making sure it doesn't look too jank. From my testing, they shouldn't actually screw things up too much, but they do split the aristocracy up more than previously.

Within Japan:

The Shogunate/Landowners interest group is now called Fudai. They will rule the Shogunate government, and must be removed and marginalized in order to head towards the Meiji Reformation event. Meanwhile, you will need to elevate one of four other interest groups - Imperial House, the Ko & Sho, Zaibatsu, or Tozama - and keep them empowered for ten years to complete the reformation. The diversity of options combined with the added challenge of managing more and more conservative interest groups should create a satisfying modernization challenge for someone who wanted a bit more crunch to their Japan game.

The Emperors, once they start coming, will belong to the Imperial House interest group. This is intended to represent the singularly powerful interest this ancient institution wields, even within Japan today.

FEATURES:

> 2 new interest groups, Old Money and Crime Bosses
> Special versions of the interest groups for Japan, Imperial House and Tozama
> Revised history files for Japan to manage new character-interest group relationships
> Edited Meiji reformation triggering event and follow-up events to properly interact with new interest groups
> Changed the names of the interest groups for both Shogunate and Imperial Japan

UPDATED: To version 1.02:
1.02
> Added some historical characters including Iwakura Tomomi, Tadayasu Nakayama, and Kawaji Toshiakira to the starting situation of Japan representing different interest groups.
> Redesigned the imperial reformation journal entry and events so that you can empower different interest groups to effect the reformation; see above.

To come in FUTURE versions:

> New icons for the two new interest group types
> Special events and new IG interactions for extant events: look forward to your interest groups over- and under-react as befits them to the Anbei purge, the Heihachiro Oshio rebellions, and, of course, the Matthew Perry expedition.
> New and additional characters, both in the history files and through events.

Hey dude, this stuff is really cool. Have you considered partnering with people like the Joseon Private Flavor Pack (which reworks Japan and adds Daimyo vassals) or the Victorian Flavor Mod? Japan could really use these dynamics in both Mods.

Hmmm, tricky to represent. The imperial house was the key piece of the restoration, but it could never have happened it without the middle officials from the Tozama pushing it. Good luck with the next part.

@Caesar15 - There are multiple ways the player can approach restoring the imperial house, with or without the assistance of the Tozama. Despite Tozama involvement, the imperial restoration really should center the Imperial House, especially considering the pivotal relationship it really had with the whole system.

But, I agree that you can't really get a good sense of even the importance of the Tozama with the current approach to the Boshin War. So that is the next part of this project.

Cool mod. Shouldn’t the Tozama Daiymo be apart of the imperial house? Or at least supporting it in the journal entry? Since those domains were mainly responsible for the Restoration.

Sounds interresting. Good job with the description and the mod!
