Upgrade Mod

Description
This mod allows upgrades to most (decent) vanilla weapons down three different upgrade paths, depending on what the player wants to improve.

-Melee Weapons-

Power
Upgrading the Power of a weapon will very slightly boost it's critical damage and significantly boost it's base damage.
Good for difficulties with multi-hit turned off, difficulties with tankier zombies, PvP, or players who find they often have lots of debuffs and injuries.

Efficiency
Upgrading the efficiency of a melee weapon will vastly increase it's critical strike chance and increase it's multi-hit by 1 (e.g. if a weapon usually hits 2 zombies at once, it will now hit 3 instead).
Good for areas or difficulties with lots of zombies.

Quality
Upgrading the quality of an item will slightly increase it's damage and critical strike chance, and vastly improve it's durability.
Good for people who don't like constantly scavenging for new weapons or for weapons that break quickly.

-Firearms-

Power
Upgrading the power of a gun will boost it's damage output and it's stopping power; if it fails to kill the target, it will likely knock them off their feet instead.
Good for weapons that do little damage or weapons that have large bullet spreads.

Accuracy
Upgrading the accuracy of a gun will make it slightly more accurate and give it a slightly higher fire rate.
Good for guns that have a bad fire rate or for players with little to no aiming skill.

Quality
Upgrading the quality of a gun will significantly improve it's durability, make it significantly less likely to jam, and on most guns, it will suppress them too (Shotguns and revolvers cannot be suppressed, and get a small boost to damage and accuracy instead).
Good when you need to use a gun, but don't want to attract anymore zombies over.

-The Workstations-
To make these upgrades, players will need to first make a workbench using various tools, planks, and pieces of metal.
To upgrade more advanced and complicated weapons (e.g. Firearms or rare melee weapons like the machete or katana), players will need to further upgrade the workbench by making a workbench extension.
Binding, Reinforcements, Blades, and Gun Parts are all items you need to make upgrades, and you can make them using materials found around towns.

-Other-
This mod has recently undergone an overhaul and is now completely different. For players who already have the old mod on a save file, or for players who just prefer the old version, it's still able to be used under the submod called "Upgrade Old" that you will also get from installing this mod.
However, I recommend for those who aren't already using the old mod to use this new one instead, because the old one is very unbalanced and VERY unpolished and buggy.
It also comes with a traits mod that adds a few "upgrades" of already existing vanilla traits which is sepperate and optional.

Hello, I have a question about how to repair modified firearms?
DrDoofr  [author] 7 Sep, 2024 @ 7:38pm
And just a reminder, you can still use the old version of the mod, it's a separate submod you get when subbing to this one (It should already be enabled on old worlds created with the mod). So if you still really want the armor or something like that, you can enable "Upgrade Old" in the workshop mods menu. If you really want to use the old and new version at the same time, you absolutely still can, though i'd recommend against it for balancing purposes.

Anyway yap session over gagegn

For example, I could either make it so it blocks all damage, but gets a hole ripped in it when attacked, but that is a lot of work and resources for armor that only works once. If I make it block damage AND be indestructible (as it was in the previous version of the mod) then it makes the player borderline invincible barring only hard pings such as drag downs or lethal fall damage and all and all makes the armor waayyy to busted. All of that combined with my very limited texturing and modeling skill/knowledge I feel i should just leave the whole armor thing to other mods like Scrap armor or Kp armor pack.
As for the patch and item notes, i will add the list of items you can upgrade to the mod desc, but just assume everything from the old mod didn't make the cut and isn't in the new one. If there are any exceptions in the future to that rule, i'll add the item in question to the item notes.
DrDoofr  [author] 7 Sep, 2024 @ 7:37pm
I didn't initially bother adding a list of items changed because like I said it's less of an update to the existing mod and more of a complete overhaul/new mod. Not a single item from the original is in the updated new one for reasons stated in the mod desc and i don't plan on adding them into the new one without heavily nerfing/balancing them and renaming them if at all.
In the case of armor, i don't plan on adding it back because with the way the base game is it makes it very difficult to find a balanced middle ground with armor (e.g. armor is either broken or not; it can't be slightly damaged or smth).

Hey, are you still having trouble with your zombies spawning with upgraded armor? I can show you how to fix that if you were curious.

how do the underbags work
DrDoofr  [author] 27 Mar, 2023 @ 4:26pm
@Archadies Leafwalker Thank you for the support man! I really appreciate it, and as for the compatibility, it (kinda) should work with just about every mod, as in it won't crash any others and should run at the same time, but some firearm modding this mod adds or another mod adds won't work crossed between them (e.g. you most likely can't put a brita gun mod on one of this mod's weapons) but they shouldn't crash each other on the same save. As for the canteen, the internal ID for it is literally just "Canteen", so any mod that also has that with the same internal ID might overwrite it, depending on the mod and it's load priority. The canteen holds the same amount as the bleach bottle, but it is much lighter than a bleach bottle, both empty and full.
