As the charismatic heir to Pierre Trudeau, Justin led the Liberals to a landslide victory over the Canadian Conservatives and was widely hailed as a breath of fresh air. He has had a difficult premiership because of blunders and ethical lapses, losing substantial support in the media and among the Liberals' progressive base. He is known as being a champion of refugees, marijuana legalization, women's rights, gun control, and First Nations reconcilliation. He has taken climate action in spite of his country's reliance on its energy industry. He also helped rescue the TPP and kept relations with America on a good footing despite Trump's hostility. However, he has also faced a lot of opposition from Conservatives and Right Wing Populists for his pandemic management and from the oil and gas industry. He has also faced criticism from his left for not being progressive enough. Currently, his Liberals govern through a confidence and supply agreement with the socially democratic New Democrats, who are backing him on the promise that he enact universal pre-K and expand health coverage to prescriptions and dental care. And the women love him. Here, he represents Maine, where a lot of French Canadians live.
