Interesting facts about Theodore Roosevelt:

*There has perhaps never been a personality so colorful in the Oval Office as Theodore Roosevelt, who was, among other things, a rough-rider during the Spanish-American war, a devout adherent to physical fitness, an avid hunter (an expedition to Africa after his presidency resulted in the deaths of over 11,000 animals), outdoorsman, writer, and conservationist, as well as the man who commissioned the Panama Canal, supported full suffrage for women, was the inspiration for the teddy bear, and survived an assassination attempt just to gave a speech minutes later, among other things.

*At the age of 42, he remains the youngest president to take office (John F. Kennedy was 43 when he was elected).

*He was the first president to both ride in an airplane and in a submarine, as well as visit a foreign country while in office.

*He created the phrase, "Speak softly and carry a big stick."
