Description
Story
A lone prospector, after searching the asteroid belt for weeks, finally sees something on the mass detector. This could could be just what he needs to repair his ship, pay off his debts, hire some crew, and maybe have a few space credits left over.

As he approaches within visual range, he realizes that this is no asteroid. It looks like some kind of machine. It emits no energy or thermal signature, so whatever it is, it has been here for a long time and is very dead.

Donning his EVA suit he goes outside for a closer look.

Examining the device he realizes that this is unlike anything he has seen before. This could be worth a lot of credits at the trade station. Its too large to bring inside his ship, but he could probably strap it on the outside if he could find some way to attach it to his external cargo rack.

He spots something that looks vaguely like a cargo tie-down ring and as he grabs it to test its strength, an arc of electricity jump from the device to his hand, knocking him back, and shutting down his suit.

As his suit reboots, he hears a radio transmission over his earphones, but there is too much radio noise to make it out. The noise finally clears, and he hears a repeating message, "Biological life form detected. This unit not functional. Send reinforcements".

As the message repeats, the device begins glowing, brighter and brighter. So bright that his visor auto-dims to protect his eyes. A sudden discharge of electricity overwhelms and burns out his suit.

After that... only darkness.



The Cybernetics have arrived, and they are not your friends. They have one objective: to destroy all biological life in the galaxy. They will stop at nothing to achieve this objective, because they are not alive - they are machines.



What's New in Version 1.1?
- A lot of tweaking and tuning of the existing spawns
- A new encounter. I won't spoil the surprise by telling you what it is.
- And a Boss fight. Be careful, I intend this fight to be difficult for a single player to win.

2024-Dec-10 Increased minimum threat score required to spawn suicide drone and suicide drone swarm.
2024-12-11 Decreased distance in front of drone that explosion occurs. Decreased damage from explosion.

About This Mod
This mod uses MES (Modular Encounters Systems). You do not need to add MES to your game as it will be automatically added when this mod is loaded.

All ships in this mod were designed by Jasper, except for the 'Ripper' which is based on the
(Drone) SB-R19 Ripper Class Fast Attack Craft by Tael. Thanks, Tael, for allowing me to use your ship in this mod.

Decreased distance in front of drone that explosion occurs. Decreased damage from explosion.

As an aside, you can blacklist those two spawngroups in the MES config files if you just want to elliminate them.

I may need to turn down the explosion strength and/or range. I will look at it. Again, thanks for your feedback.

They're fine threat wise. The problem is that I have blocks that were behind heavy armor, and they would just get deleted. I had one instance happen where the explosion ripped through my entire base regardless of what was there. This could be an issue with being on a server, so there might be some physics lag, or a compounding issue, but it happens too routinely.

The last one that showed up got shot down, and landed at the entrance to my base, exploded, and destroyed everything behind my walls. I love the encounters, and the non-suicide ones are great. It's just when the explosion seems to ignore the armor my base has is when I have the issue.

Besides that wall of text your mod is really good.

If you are talking about the suicide drones, they are supposed to be nasty, and shouldn't be spawning until your threat score gets up there.

Just checked the minimum threat score for these drones. I think it is a bit low. Increased minimum threat score required to spawn suicide drone and suicide drone swarm.

I want to like this so badly, but when the drones detonate and rip apart everything within 50 meters I just can't do it.
