The sky blue shadow of Ussem that came to be known as Ajrami existed prior as a transcendent, idiosyncratic blob of rosin who was affixed to Soren's formerly disfigured remains. Ajrami had the option to look just like Ussem, yet thought it would've been disrespectful to prance around with the countenance of their master. Or they could've just wanted to look different now that they have a body of their own. In any event, after returning to Ussem under a period off silence and rest, Ajrami's body was given "time". Thus making them mortal. As with Tanuja who is tethered to Sæsn, Ajrami must annually return to Ussem's side to gain more "time". Less they risk being reduced to a sessile puddle of primordial rosin. Ajrami, realizing this is but a natural process all beings should be subject to according to Sæsn and Ussem, felt complacent with what was done to them. And seeing as how that they hardly ever leaves Ussem's side, now that they dwell in Penjara as the realm's second prince, Ajrami never truly views this as a problem. Although they have taken to imitating a child whining in an attempt to get on Ussem's nerves. All in vain though since Ussem is mostly ignorant of such emotional acts. In spite of having and caring for a child of his own who by far is all too privy to them.
