Foreword
I have made a few guides about troubleshooting the game by now. Despite many forums threads indicating they should be in demand, they are barely used. This guide is for easy accessing them.

Start: Verify Integrity of Game Files
This tip is so basic, it is a wondrous thing if you never needed to do it before.
Simply verifying your game's files can already reveal any issues you might have missed during the download. At the end of the download Steam gives a short status update if everything is in order and redownload if a verification failed. However, that might not always suffice.

The official Steam manual for how to verify your game files can be found here:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

Right-click on the game's entry in your Steam Library and select Properties

At the Local Files tab you will find the function to verify the integrity of your game's files

Details about why this process is so important you can find here
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2834863313

Alternatively you can start with this, as it has proven extremely successful for troubleshooting
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828650446
Restart Your PC
After every kind of crucial change - restart your PC.
That already solves so many problems, it is hilarious that it gets overlooked more often than you can imagine.

The thing is: services can get stuck.
When services of your operating system get stuck, they might become unable to load essential things like drivers how they normally do.

It is basically like paper jam with your printer.
You can have it go forever and ever, and sometimes it just happens.

Not the kind of jam Homer has in mind, though...
Infinite Loading Screen
Since Monster Hunter Rise's game structure and architecture resembles of a ROM being loaded within an emulator, this is one of the many common issues which is often solved already by just verifying your game's files, especially after updates.

If you want to have a lasting solution, check the details here which also includes that you should by all means check your storage device first. Often a corruption of files is caused by storage errors, whether by defective hardware or other soft causes (like missing rights).
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2833499162
Shaders / Textures Issues
Now, if the game manages to load properly, it does not mean that the rendered shader-files are doing okay. Forcing your graphics cards and the game to recompile them can be helpful if just verifying the game's files did not help.
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2833491284
Check in addition the long lasting steps mentioned in this guide.
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2833499162
Crash at Start
A crash at launching the game indicates that something went horribly wrong, very early. You want to check on the Crash Report provided by the game, and eventually on the DirectX Diagnostic Tool for details. In most cases the issue is related to outdated drivers or incompatibility to certain services.

How you can call upon the DirectX Diagnostic Tool you can read here
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2831340548
Compatibility Issues
Even if your PC does fulfill all official requirements which can be reread on the store page

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1446780/MONSTER_HUNTER_RISE/
there still can be compatibility issues, whether due to outdated drivers, or general incompatibility at all. At the time I am writing this, Monster Hunter Rise does not support Windows 11 officially.
But it still works like a charm on it. What often helped is running the game in compatibility mode.
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2831410978
Too Many Steam Friends
In uncommon cases having too many Steam Friends can prevent the game from loading.

Reports described issues starting with circa 25+ Steam Friends.

There are two known approaches to check if the issue applies for your case

a) Start Steam in offline mode and try running the game

b) Have a different Steam account with none or less Steam Friends try running your game via Steam Family Share feature.
Save Game Loss
A weirdly common issue is save games becoming unusable or entirely gone after having connection issues. A simple approach would be deactivating Steam's Cloud Synchronisation for the game while using an alternative. I suspect it has something to do with the game's strangely ported architecture of running like a "ROM" within an "emulator".

A guide which offers a few approaches to recover your save game can be found here
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2743342837
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller Issues
Steam controller support has an inbuilt function which makes it easier to use the Nintendo Switch Pro controller with a typical Nintendo layout. However, that function is causing swapped buttons with Monster Hunter Rise. Here you can find a workaround to handle that issue
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2717405530
Issues after using Mods
These kind of issues should technically not exist - as in: if you mod your game, you (have to) know what you are doing. And yet after most patches the same kind of questions and complaints seem to appear on the forums with players reporting their game is no longer working - and those turned out to be cases in which mods were involved. It is unfair towards the developers, and unfair towards anyone who wants to genuinely help their fellow hunters, especially since most of those reports come alongside claims that they did everything correctly. Which also often turned out to be false after giving it a close look.

The most easiest way to get your game running again in such cases you can find here
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828650446
A good way of handling mods you can find here
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2791694098
The solution and prevention to these kind of issues are so simple, it makes the whole topic hilarious to begin with. It is basically:

  • Make Backups
  • Make a Screenshot
  • Follow the Mods Authors' Instructions
  • Do not ask on Steam as Monster Hunter Rise does not officially support mods - ask where it makes sense: at the source of your mods

For everything Monster Hunter mod related topic, I highly recommend you to join the biggest English-speaking modding discord for that: https://discord.gg/gJwMdhK

Screenshot from PC/Steam Version 12.0.0.0

It can be this easy: make a screenshot of your game's folder and its content before applying any mods. And compare it with your modded version of the game. Mod authors made it easy for everyone to identify any files which are not native to the game. If you have files which are not native to the game, even if they come in the mod folder called "natives", then there is always a chance you might have issues after a game's patch.

If you lost track of everything, then purge your game's folder as described here
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828650446
You would only need to redownload the whole game if a mod did something very wrong with your main files. Otherwise it is just downloading the "emulator" part while the "ROM" is untouched.
CoD Workaround triggers DRM
Scenario:
Game is freshly bought and therefore not affected by leftover files and related issues, but will deny to start with the DRM Denuvo being triggered, leading to Error 88500201

Cause identified:
Affected in significant numbers are Call of Duty: Black Ops III players and anyone else who uses the app mentioned in this Steam guide https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2848569913
Solution:
Full deletion of the mentioned app is recommended and necessary

Seen before:
Sunbreak/TU1 release, Capcom enhanced the DRM strongly, making it react properly to the mentioned app

Conclusion:
That is no bug/error/glitch as the DRM is working as intended

Any mod you use, whether it is for another game or not - as long as it has a global effect on your PC, it is considered a mod for Monster Hunter Rise as well. Therefore, please always check for such third-party interference.
Mods Fixing Crashes, Stuttering, FPS
While mods can cause issues, mods can help also fixing issues. A certain mod combo recommendation I like to share and the details on why they work like that can be found here
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2755312447
Missing Event Quests and DLC
Since this issue is very rare, you can find details in a separate guide:

Helpful Tools
CrystalDiskInfo - Check your Storage for possible issues
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/crystaldiskinfo_portable
It can always be the case that there are hardware issues you do not know about, and by coincidence a game just reveals them without actually causing them.

Common Issue: Fatal D3D Error
Increasing the virtual RAM to match your actual RAM or higher (1,5x - 2,5x) often helps

This in addition to the standard default steps to update your drivers as mentioned here

Common Issue: Steam Client Beta
In January 2023, a new version of the Steam Client Beta, which introduces new multiplayer features, caused Monster Hunter Rise to crash upon start.

While the issue might be unique so far, it still caused a lot of confusion, which brings us to the recommendation to avoid Steam Client Beta, or at least check if your game's performance differs after (temporarily) opting out the beta participation.

Common Issue: Recompiling Shaders
Whenever the game has to do that often or it takes especially long, try increasing the shader cache used by your graphics card. This is something which can be considered a niche tip, as Monster Hunter Rise shaders-files are not that big that they should cause any troubles.

However, low-end PCs which just barely meet the minimum requirements might benefit from changing the shader cache used by their graphics cards, as a bigger cache would allow the pre-compiled shaders to remain there for longer, instead of having them overwritten whenever you start a different application which might use the same cache as Monster Hunter Rise.

It can help, but the major issue would lie mostly in the storage device which is used by the game and your graphics card. If the cache is located on a slow storage drive, it might be the very reason why the issues exist to begin with. In such case adjust the settings accordingly so the cache runs from the fastest storage drive available to you.
Common Issue: ReShade at Updates
ReShade is to be removed before any game update or graphics drivers update, as ReShade interferes with the shader compilation and causes issues which can trigger the DRM.
Common Issue: Dynamic Shadow
With patch 10.0.2.0 an issue in regards of Dynamics Shadow has been detected and reported by multiple users. Turning that setting off until there is an official address of it can improve FPS related issues.
Common Issue: Logitech Input
To be more specific: the Logitech app has a function called "G-Shift" which is suppose to help you with your inputs. It does not work well with games like Monster Hunter or other fighting games which use the mouse.

Common Issue: Xbox LT Button
There had been a lot of players who experienced issues with their Xbox Wireless Controllers. A workaround for the moment would be to disable Steam input within the Controller Configuration for Monster Hunter Rise.

If it is about the controller randomly stopping working, then changing the screen mode can help. Recommended is windowed + Borderless Gaming.
Common Issue: ALT-Keybinding
The issue lies in the fact that binding the ALT-key is not supported by the game.
You could workaround that with a third party app which allows temporary or static keybinds for any key.
Common Issue: MSI / Realtek Crash
Nahimic Services caused plenty of crashes after the Sunbreak expansion update.
A straightforward compatibility issue. Deactivating the service solved the issue.
Common Issue: ASUS
Similar to what Nahimic Services does for MSI / Realtek, ASUS has an app called "GameFirst VI". It is known to cause connection issues with certain games.
Common Issue: Xbox Play Anywhere
Check this guide for the section Game Randomly Freezing
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2755312447
Common Issue: "Cave-like-Sound"
Make sure that the settings of your sound output hardware you are using align with your ingame settings for sound. Checking them in the device manager makes sense. A lot of sound-issues turned out to be faulty settings, which lead to weird "cave-like-environment-sounds", which is just the game doing to emulate Surround Sound. That does sound weird if you e.g. only have stereo.

Common Issue: Low Volume Audio
Same as before: you need to make sure the settings align with the game and with your audio setup. A lot of cases of low volume audio have been resolved by setting the ingame settings to PC speakers as output device.

In doubt: check also your third party apps which are responsible for extra audio features.
Common Issue: Multiplayer
The Steam version of the game has a region lock, which differs from the Nintendo Switch version. A guide how to address the issue by changing the download region and changing the region you play with can be found here
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2914770459

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2914860597
Common Issue: MR-230-*
A desynchronisation error which is often observed with modified games.

Some mods cause more often desynchronisation than others. The image shows a highly popular mod which had been identified as one which cause often issues. Even when it is just installed but not activated. However, any other gameplay changing mod / REFramework script (LUA file) is known for causing issues, no matter how harmless they seem.
Network / Connection Issues
Not common. Not easy. Too many factors to give an universal approach.
You could however try with the official approach on the matter

Check here with the section Connection Issues to understand why its not easy

The checklist you can find there and some more gives you an idea - hopefully.

[MHRS-0034-0036]

Pattern recognised:
MHRS - savegame related issues
MR - connection issues

This list is made by deduction from the descriptions and workarounds you can find on the Steam forums. A public official codes list by the developers is not available at the moment. The higher numbers within the MR codes seem to indicate timeouts, while the lower ones indicate failures to build up a connection to begin with. Unfortunately the feedback from most forums threads are insufficient. Check here for the why
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2744565677
Rare Issue: Lost Settings after Update
Often seen as sound issues where the NPC voices are not played correctly, or the game is not keeping the preferred window mode of the game. In addition to the recommendation to give compatibility mode a try, please check if the issue persist after creating an additional character in a vacant save game slot.

It is under suspicion to be related with enhanced DRM measures over the time, which is reflected in significant changes of sizes of the save games. In this case specifically the customisation file.
Rare Issue: Add-On Content Crash
Game crashes when accepting add-on content from the courier Palico.
But only when accepting all available at once.

Workaround: accepting add-on content one by one does not trigger a crash.

Most likely happening to players who take a long break between major updates, as the format of which additional content are delivered changed with Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak PC/Steam Version 12.0.0.0
Rare Issue: DRM Glitch

Shortly after the release of Title Update 4 you were able to observe a strange glitch which caused the DRM to prevent you from playing. In that rare case disabling add-ons via Steam, running the game without them and re-enabling them afterwards did do the trick.

You can enable and disable the DLCs via the Steam Library
