Lore-Friendly Companion Class Changes

Description
This mod contains class, subclass, and multiclass changes for all companions and sidekicks other than Tekehu. When choosing which classes to apply to which companion, we considered both mechanics and lore.

Why haven't we changed Tekehu?
To put it simply, we feel that his two unique subclasses not only fit him perfectly story-wise, but are also mechanically strong enough for either of them - or both, in the case of multiclassing - to be viable even on harder difficulties.

Important Note: Unlike what we previously expected, these CAN be used on an existing savegame, but you won't be able to pick from the three options - one will have been pre-assigned. This means that complete class changes are a gamble, but subclass changes - for example on Ydwin and Eder - should work fine. Just take your party to an inn and re-spec them there! Many thanks to StellarUmbra for sharing this.

With the latest update, this mod should be working perfectly with all companions - I have gone through and checked all three options for all characters. If there are any problems you find, please do report them in the comments, and I'll try to fix them as soon as possible.

That is correct. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any workarounds beyond restarting the game / reloading to a save before you recruited Xoti. I've seen people say that the Unity Console mod can do it, but I've never looked into it myself.

Hi! Thanks. Do I understand correctly that if I originally picked Priest for Xoti, then in the mod—since Priest comes first—she will also remain a Priest? (I wanted to make her a Priest/Monk.)

Hi! So since Maia's Geomancer is from the basegame, you would need to disable this mod whenever you want to respec her.

This is because each character in Deadfire has three class setups which the game allows - the three you pick from when you recruit them - and this mod simply swaps out what they are. So this mod swaps Maia's Geomancer (Ranger / Wizard) for Hunter (Ranger / Fighter)

Alternatively, if you go into the mod files manually, I placed each companion's class info into a separate file - so you could just delete the companions you don't want the mod to affect! This will be at steam/steamapps/workshop/content/560130/2832495900 I believe.

Hope you can get it working the way you want :)

Hi! Is anyone still replying here? Could you please help me out I don’t understand the conditions of the mod or maybe I’m doing something wrong. Xoti was a priest, I respec her and she stays the same. But Maia was a Geomancer, and after the respec she turns into a Hunter.

My only caveat with this is that I think Aloth as an Evoker isn't the best call. His Might is pretty low while his Intellect and Perception are highest, which specialize him in inflicting Afflictions more than damage. It also doesn't really fit his character, with him being way more about subterfuge than raw power.

I completely agree with the subclass choices you went with here. Eder adapted to fight by himself after parting ways with the Watcher, Pallegina had to deal with disgrace and sought strength away from being the dutiful paladin and Serafin/Maia just makes sense, should've been like that in vanilla. As for Aloth I've always played him as an evoker fireball slinger anywhos. Thank you for making another playthough feel fresh!

Hey StellarUmbra, glad you like the mod and thanks for letting me know that the re-spec works! We didn't expect this but that's fantastic and we'll update the mod description :)

Great mod! Works on existing save, just need to re-spec the character.
