- Marygay Potter, test pilot for HC-01 "Hyperion"

The Amboss class Heavy Cruiser is the secondborn military design of Aster Stahl Dynamics' fleet modernisation program.
Boasting an impressive armament of six double artillery turrets in two superfiring arrangements at the top and bottom of the hull, complemented by six secondary quad-gun assault turrets, the ship is a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. A brawler in essence, it is designed to vaporise ASD's foes into thin red mist and slags of drifting metal -though this claim may have been slightly exaggerated for propaganda purposes.
Nevertheless, despite partaking in numerous engagements and large battles against the Kamari, none of the ships were actually lost in combat; though hulls HC-03 and HC-06 were deemed damaged beyond repair. There is a simple explanation to this lucky charm: even though the armour can be best described as "subpar" as far as heavy cruiser protection goes, the overall construction and compactness of the frame provides the ship with great resilience and staying power. Besides, with the number of guns that the ship carries, one can be fairly confident in stating that it is not going to get shot at for long anyway.
This has led the class to earn the nickname "Fun Times" among ASD's military personnel; and you could indeed say that it is accurate - as far as it's own crew is concerned, that is. If they are having fun, that means the enemy probably is not.
This particular iteration of the class is hull HC-04, designated "Okeanos", after the eponymous titan from Greek mythology. It is considered an honor to be assigned to this vessel in particular, because of its prestigious record which cannot be fully developed here. With over twenty-seven destroyed ships to its name (including no less than five heavy cruisers and two battlecruisers), the Okeanos has become somewhat of a legend (owing also to ASD's propaganda department). The incident of Aleph-4 saw the ship face a pair of Kamari battlecruisers that were operating in the area.
Those two in particular were known and feared amongst ASD crews as "the Mother and Daughter", owing to their modus operandi -the Mother would take a quick jab at convoys or isolated ships, while the Daughter would shell enemies from a distance; then they would both disappear.
The Okeanos, then captained by major William Mandella, was on patrol duty when it was suddenly bracketed by a salvo of large-caliber shells. The radar then picked up a large bogey on an intercept course, and a second one staying at a distance.
Having recognised the kind of threat he was facing, Mandella didn't wait for the crew to identify the ships. Instead, he made a gamble; ordering the helm to plot a short-range tactical jump right behind the Daughter.
Such a manoeuvre had been attempted before on several occasions, but never on such a short scale, as calculations took precious time and the ship needed to maintain its vector. However, Mandella had Marygay Potter at the helm, who had been the test pilot for the class and knew the ship in and out. As such, she did not need to do all the calculations: some educated guesses were sufficient.
The jump was executed in record time, putting the Okeanos right behind the Daughter. The former then proceeded to beat fifty shades of pain into the rather surprised battlecruiser, rendering it inoperable in a matter of minutes.
However, the Mother soon arrived to avenge her offspring. What followed was a fire exchange of biblical proportions : the Mother went in all guns blazing, managing to blast the top aft turret of the Okeanos clean off, before the latter replicated with a full broadside that disabled the battlecruiser's port engines.
This allowed Mandella to manoeuvre around the wounded warship and pepper it with artillery shells -not without taking a few more hits in the process, however: a salvo from the battlecruiser blew a hole into the side of the reactor room; thankfully, it had been depressurised beforehand as a safety precaution.
After circling around the battlecruiser for a while, Mandella noticed it wasn't fighting back anymore and ordered the guns to cease fire, leaving the warship as a drifting hulk, gnawed away by raging fires and secondary explosions.
The Okeanos itself was looking worse for wear, and systems were beginning to fail rapidly. It took the quick reflexes of Potter to make an emergency jump back to safety, thus saving the ship and living to relate what had happened.
The day after the incident, ASD's CEO Adrastos Doukas received a private transmission from -would'nt you know it- Kamari general Salem Ixchel, in which she praised the Okeanos's crew for their glorious deed and requested that the crew be offered a bottle of fine whisky each as a gift on her behalf, with the money she provided along with her message.
Turns out there can be respect amongst enemies -even love, at times, but that is a story for another day.

Please make me aware of any issues regarding this design, setting up subgrids is tedious and as such mistakes are frequent. Any feedback on the lore or the ship itself in the comments is also appreciated!

@cptnoname I'm still not great at lore but I'm doing a complete rework of my faction's one atm so I took the opportunity to practice.

Good job with the lore. I was expecting it to be pretty cringe worthy, tbh. (Followed the link from Brocked's discord)
