Beginners: Single ship encounter - daylight

Description
You have encountered a single unescorted merchant. It is early in the morning and conditions are ideal for an underwater daylight attack. Without interference of enemy escorts you can practice sinking and approaching ships

Part 1/2
Hey @Ha_gM_n! The TDC is a deeeeeep rabbithole ^^

I just checked a bunch of Tutorials on Youtube: This one is pretty good:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyPb7db4Z8Q
It's from the subsim channel.

All the tutorials I found explain it correctly but they always explain the AOB how it was used by US subs in WW2.

The German way is a bit more hands on:
The target's bow is facing you directly: AOB = 0°
The target's stern is facing you directly: AOB =180°
You can perfectly see the target's side: AOB = 90°
The target's bow is facing to the left when viewed through the scope/UZO: AOB dial = left/red
The target's bow is facing to the right when viewed through the scope/UZO: AOB dial = right/green

Part 2/2

In the game it works like that:
Center the view on the target. Decide if the bow is facing to the left or right. This determines if you use the red or green side of the AOB dial.

Do you see more of the bow: The AOB is closer to 0°
Do you see more of the stern: The AOB is closer to 180°
Do you see more of the side: The AOB is somewhat between 45° and 135°

The German order was usually something like: "Bug links, Lage 30." Which translates to :"Bow left, AOB 30°". What the commander actually said was:" Hey! the ship's bow is facing left when I center the scope on it and I think AOB is around 30° because I can clearly see a lot more of the bow than of the side.

I hope this will help you on your TDC endeavors XD! See ya!

I am a really big submarine fan from the germans, but there's one thing i still don't know, and that's how to properly use the TDC to actaully get a hit with the torpedo, and it is really frustrating, can you people help me? thanks.

Hello @Kohntarkosz the distance to the ship is randomized.

I also had two occasions where no ship was visible. By diving you should be able to pick up the mercahnt on the hydrophone. The hydrophone does not work when you are surfaced (just in case you don't know).

Moreover there seems to be a bug in the mission editor. Everytime I set a distance value at which you spawn from the ship, this value is ignored. So it can happen that the ship spawns very close or far away from you.

There is no ship on here.
