💭 When we first played Starbound, we noticed a great diversity of playable species, each with unique stories and structures that we experienced during our adventures. However, after some time, it becomes clear that the only difference between these various species is their appearance, something that breaks the immersion in the game's universe.

Thinking about it, I saw a need to look for characteristics that make the choice of species a rewarding and unique moment for the player, so that he is punished and also rewarded for the choice made. Other than that, the diet was also modified, with options that make sense for each species. In short, my goal with this mod is to ensure that biological diversity is as interesting and satisfying as aesthetic diversity in Starbound! 💭


🍽️ Ingredients and foods can only be consumed if they are in the specific diet standard of each race*.
😋 Modified Wellfed effect, temporarily preventing food consumption, but keeping decay on the nutrition bar.
🤢 Modified the effect of Food Poisoning to be a little more meaningful to the player.
💀 Due to the various mechanics involving food, the effect of Starving has been modified, making it a lot less deadly.
🪧 All the changes and the specific values can also be read more precisely in the character creation tab.
🆕 This mod does not require a new character, and is generally safe to uninstall.
(*Currently only meat and farmed products. The other dishes will be added in future updates)


🐵 Apex 🐵
🟢 Light resistance against the elements caused by physical changes.
🔶 Maximum life decreased by genetic mutation.
🧬 Primal instinct to flee, increasing mobility when in danger of death.
🍴 Omnivorous, with the exception of metallic foods.

🪶 Avian 🪶
🟢 Sharp vision that amplifies attack potential.
🔶 Defense potential diminished by the fragile bone structure.
🧬 Wing beats when falling at high speed, consuming energy to reduce the fall.
🍴 Omnivorous, with the exception of metallic foods.

🌿 Floran 🌿
🟢 High resistance against electricity and toxins.
🔶 Severe sensitivity to heat or cold.
🧬 Starts the curing process when wet, and photosynthesis when in an open and lit environment.
🍴 Strictly carnivorous, with Bloodthirst and nutritional bonus when devouring raw meat.

🤖 Glitch 🤖
🟢 High resistance against temperatures and toxins, in addition to not needing oxygen.
🔶 Mobility related to the nutritional status of the machine.
🧬 Consumes food to initiate self-repair whenever needed.
🍴 Electrivore, consuming electricity and metallic food, and slowly recharging while on the ship.

😎 Human 😎
🟢 Greater energy efficiency in the use of weapons and tools that consume energy.
🔶 Slightly increased sensitivity against temperatures, toxins and electricity.
🧬 Special benefits when consuming typical Earth foods.
🍴 Omnivorous, with the exception of metallic foods and with nutritional bonus when consuming cooked meats.

🐠 Hylotl 🐠
🟢 Amphibians, enduring long periods without oxygen and with high resistance against cold.
🔶 Strong sensitivity against toxins and electricity.
🧬 Offensive and defensive potential amplified in contact with water, preferably oceans, decaying as it dries.
🍴 Omnivorous, with the exception of metallic foods.

🔥 Novakid 🔥
🟢 Immunity against radiation, toxins and high temperatures, including lava.
🔶 Severe sensitivity against cold, and slight loss of nutrition when hit by low temperature.
🧬 Gaseous body with greater physical resistance, and nutrition-related attack potential.
🍴 Omnivorous, with food consumption doubled to sustain gas burning.

To be honest I never really tought so deep about DNA features for NPCs. Usually almost all the interesting effects are coded to only work at players. There's a pretty good chance of the elemental resistances work on NPCs indeed, so we could assume that all the passive stuff that don't change food/energy/hp bar will probably be on the NPCs too, but all the other traits that changes those bars or do some checks (like the Avian air jump, or the Glitch charging at the ship) will only work at the players. Sorry about the delay, I'll try to repply sooner next time, thank you very much =)

Hey Lienom, yes I did some updates with the help of the comments hehe. About other race mods, yeah, it will probably conflict with other races mods, since they probably will make changes into the same files I did, or probably the same races =)

@Alpha Drako exactly! Just like you, I used to be against modding, but then modded my GTA IV and realized that mods saved this game. And I think they save Starbound as well. The OG game is good, no doubt, but you're right, mods make it soo much better... Especially those that restore legacy content since it's for the memories as well..
