AH-64 'Apache' Helicopter

Description

It is armed with a 30 mm (1.18 in) M230 chain gun carried between the main landing gear, under the aircraft's forward fuselage, and four hardpoints mounted on stub-wing pylons for carrying armament and stores, typically a mixture of AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and Hydra 70 rocket pods.

Info and Design Philosophy:
This is a twin seat attack helicopter and my entry for MrNJersey's attack helicopter challenge. I've spent the better part of the two weeks slapping in every trick in the book to make this fly as nice as conceivably possible.

Here's what you can expect: It's not a perfect 1 to 1 recreation of the real thing, but is approximately 1:1 scale. That being said I got it as close as I reasonably could with a few simplifications for gameplay purposes as well as build constraints. Unlike a lot of other creations as well as some of my own creations, my goal with this chopper was smooth and easy operation that doesn't require a pilot's license to operate. That means all important controls can be accessed via hotkeys, and startup is essentially a 1 button operation. You don't lose much performance between stability assist and non stability assist, so feel free to use whichever suits your skill level (do note you can push it a bit too hard in non assist mode and end up with shaking at extreme speed (>60m/s)).

Features:
  • Ducted Fan Flight System - Allows for smooth high-speed forward flight up to 60m/s!
  • Twin seat turret controls - The main gun turret is controlled by the pilot / rear seat until someone pops into the front one, where they take control.
  • Roll-Yaw for easy high speed yaw control.
  • Dual flight modes - Defaults to WASD/UDLR with optional mouse-aim mode.
  • 1 Button trigger system (With another to swap weapons).
  • Radar Gun Slave system - Never have to aim manually again!
  • Target hud projection - Targets detected by search radar automatically display on the HUD!
  • Rocket Ballistics computer.
  • Chin Cannon Ballistics computer.
  • 12x chaff countermeasures.
  • RWR.
  • NV Equipment.

Weapons:
  • 4x modified 'Aphid' AGMs. These are effective up to 2km (but start tracking at 1km).
  • 40x dumbfire rockets.
  • 100x Chin Mounted Light AC.
  • 2x additional wingtip pylons for AAMs.

Notes:
  • Target hud painting is buggy. Due to the limitations of radars I have to do some less than stellar identification methods on targets meaning that they may pop in and out of existence on the hud at random.
  • I was limited for the competition on how many subgrids I could use. That means only one side of the canopy opens, I didn't include AAMs, etc.
  • The rocket ballistic computer doesn't behave super great with side-to-side motion. It also doesn't have roll compensation.

Mouse-Aim Flight Controls:
These are the controls in mouse-aim mode.
  • W/S - Collective (It's altitude hold based so you don't need to hold it).
  • A/D - Roll.
  • Mouse Up/Down - Pitch.
  • Mouse L/R - Yaw.
