Pump it up!

Abstract0!

The fourth weapon to receive the Abstract0 treatment in the series is the Sawed-Off shotgun. This weapon seemed really fitting for the digital rain (thx for the word MGBazz!) design as it is a weapon that has a very flat surface and the top stays relatively level across the whole geometry. As usual this design will get 3 colour variants which will hit the workshop in the coming 2 days.

As Christmas is nearing this will be the end to the Abstract0 collection for now, but don't worry. In the new year I will be back with an AWP in the same design and if the design works out on the geometry a P90, USP-S, Negev, and UMP-45! For now I want to wish you all happy holidays and a new year filled with joy and love! The workshop has introduced me to this wonderful community filled with wonderful people and I am very happy to be a part of it!

Work Process

One thing that I was struggling was getting the digital rain effect to also be height adjustable. Till the Sawed-Off I would manually mask different layers out and try to get them to work in their seperate height channel. However, with the Sawed-Off I said to myself that there should be an easier way. Especially having 2 layers with height details caused a lot of difficulties when you're trying to achieve a smooth consistent height across a surface. To fix this I exported all the different procedural masks and combined them in Photoshop.

However, exporting a mask with a gradient is always a tricky thing. No matter how I exported it, TGA, PSD, PSB, PNG, all of these caused weird artifacting which was very noticeable in the normal map. Eventually I found out that exporting it in EXR at 32bit got rid of pretty much any artifacting. By doing so I was able to get a consistent height across all the different masks as they were now merged into one.

I was also not quite sure where to introduce the Joint Security branding as that little bit of white ties the whole skin together. After some feedback from my girlfriend we decided to put it in it's current spot as it doesn't interfere with the overal design too much. I added some aditional scratches where the cockback mechanism slides over the metal and embossed the grip with the Joint Security logo.

Also a big thank you to Sofia, Andi, Quzga, and Moonfighter for the feedback and ideas while making these skins!

Last Words

Thanks for checking out my work and I hope you enjoyed the skin! While you're here, why not check out some more of my skins down below?

Love,
