History: Theodore Robert "Ted" Bundy , born Theodore Robert Cowell November 24, 1946 in Burlington , Vermont , died January 24, 1989 in Florida State Prison in Bradford County , Florida ( executed ), was an American serial killer , active between 1974 and 1978.

Bundy escaped from prison twice before his final arrest in February 1978. After more than a decade of denial, he finally confessed to more than 30 murders , but the actual number has remained unknown. The number varies between 26 and 100 but the general perception is 35 murders. Bundy's typical approach was to beat down his victims with a crowbar and then strangle them to death. He also committed rape and necrophilia ; Bundy returned to several of the places where he had left his murder victims and had sex with the corpses. Bundy was executed in the electric chair in 1989 for his last murder of 12-year-old girl Kimberly Leach.
