A-1H SPAD

Description
"A-1H Spad"

The addon for ARMA 3 by NightIntruder ("Author") ver.{see changlog} Alpha
DO NOT RE-UPLOAD IT ON STEAM AND DO NOT DISTRIBUTE IT ELSEWHERE. REMEMBER, YOU CAN ALWAYS MAKE STEAM COLLECTIONS.

WHAT:
Douglas A-1H "Spad" is a single-engine, propellor driven attack-bomber aircraft that could be operated out of an aircraft carrier. It's a single seater, enojable to fly, old-school and slow for the era it was operated. Having 15 weapon stations overall, it was also quite a capable anti-insurgency CAS plane.

WHY:
As popular demands of having the standalone "Spad" in-game in decent quality have been rising recently, I decided to make one that would support the BHR addon with the plane's flying characteristics tailored specifically to the CVA-31 carrier. Spads were operated out of Essex-class carriers for a long time.

ADDON'S MAIN FEATURES:
- the plane is compatible with Jets DLC (aircraft damage, dynamic loadouts, PhysX)
- 22 camos which include USN, USMC, USAF (+SOS), French and VNAF various squadrons
- custom Yankee Escape System to save your life if your plane refuses to keep flying
- attributes to fold wings on a mission start
- variety of effects to include: droppable fuel tanks, wing flexing, etc.
- the addon should be compatible with ACRE2, Lesh towing (and RKSL towing tractor) as well as ACE (refuel)
- custom built fuel management that employs droppable fuel tanks
- custom built weight management that affects the plane performance
- set of dedicated weapons, not complete tho atm [WIP]

NOTES ON USE OF THE ADDON:
- see Readme_A1H.txt included in this package or here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KC4y1Y7SB7yDCX4NBCAa6glx3W_FaCeP/view?usp=sharing
- it is recommended to use this plane toghether with CVA-31 carrier, available here: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/workshop/filedetails/?id=2536035098

FINAL NOTES:
Creation of the addon took ca. 4 weeks (200-250 hours). There is an a list of (undisclosed yet) further additions and improvements I would like to do. However, it's just a hobby so only some of them may be achieved, if any. No promises and no ETA. No suggetions or bug reports are needed. Please, note also this addon is not endorsed by or affiliated with Bohemia Interactive, Savage Game Designs or any other CDLC Dev Team.

I did and that's what matters the most to me. It was large part of my dev works - make the plane dependent on the dynamic weight. Perhaps some update or mod you're using broke the script responsible for calculating and applying the weight of useful payload. Or maybe you aren't that skillful virtual pilot you think you are and you missed the symptoms. Or it never worked as intended on other PCs as I never performed public test phase. We'll never know at this point. Just move along. I really have no intention to look back. It was nice but unfinished addon with no bright future :)

Funnily enough, I didn't actually notice any handling difference from load, except for the weird oscillation bug
NightIntruder  [author] 24 Aug @ 1:00am
Yeah, rolling forward was the issue from the very beginning due to the way physx was implemented in the game and the way I approached the matter of dynamic weight/loadout. Never had time nor a good idea how to solve that except removing completely the plane's flying characteristics dependency on its current loadout weight. As I said, it remains "as-is".

This is a nice mod, but some of Goldwep's experiences are definitely shared.
-The taxiing is a little finnicky, but manageable. It locks in place until the pedals are centred even with full throttle, not sure if it's intended but it's possible to work with, just takes practice.
- The plane is very happy to roll over even with quite gentle rudder inputs. You have to be very delicate.
- An actual bug for sure, the nose wobbles/oscillates aggressively left and right at higher airspeeds, I only noticed it after initial release of ordnance, I didn't notice it beforehand.
- It sometimes wants to roll forward as soon as you get in it, even with engine off.
- When the right gear was damaged, after bringing it to a complete stop, I got out of the aircraft. It then began rolling forward on its own for an unknown reason; it was on perfectly level ground and the engine was off.

I haven't been developing and maintaining A3 addons for over a year now. Btw, after inital development, I never had mentioned problems with the plane. So, perhaps you need more practice and/or analog controllers, or there was some physx update recently that changed the plane behavior, or even broke script that manages loadout/fuel. Whatever the case is you get the addon "as-is", no further "fix" shall be expected.

Horrible flight experience. Cannot taxi. Plane flips over on any rudder input on landing. Nose wiggles uncontrollably randomly inside flight envelope. I'd skip this one until its fixed.
IrohLegoman 20 Aug @ 8:30pm
It has too much rudder wiggle. I come out of a turn, and the rudder wiggles the plane, with no input.
It also has trouble taxiing, also with rudder issue

Hi there. I'm pretty sure engine damage could cause this and was supposed to be switched off. The same with the custom WIP damage model. The only thing I can suggest is to switch "show scripts errors" off, if it helps. I don't develop and maintain A3 addons anymore. You get the addon "as-is". Really sorry, bud.
Komodo 7 May @ 1:57pm
hi night,
bunch of error sqf messages pop up when the plane gets damaged like in the tail or hull

Thanks for the clarification, NightIntruder!
@Bouncy The "A-1H Skyrider" (sic) is found in NATO > Planes in the Eden editor.
