This mod is currently in development and should be considered experimental! Please give detailed feedback to me, it will help improve the mod :)

To change traffic density, enable developer mode (instructions here: https://guides.gamepressure.com/americantrucksimulator/guide.asp?ID=33754). Open the console with the ` key, type "g_traffic x" (without quotes), where x is any number from 0 (disables AI traffic completely) to 10 (default value is 1).

Not compatible with any mods that change AI traffic behavior (e.g. "Improved Traffic" by ptr1ck)! Place this mod above other traffic mods in your load order (higher priority).

Things this mod changes:
  • AI much less likely to stop when they have right-of-way (e.g. when merging onto highways)
  • AI slows down more gradually when an obstruction is ahead (e.g. 2 lanes becomes 1 lane due to construction or a traffic stop)
  • AI will actually advance on green light in construction zone on 2-lane roads. AI vehicles will still wait for the previous vehicle to clear the entire construction zone before the next one advances, but this is an improvement from the default behavior, when AI would wait for an arbitrary amount of time
  • AI more likely to overtake slow-moving vehicles (including you)
  • AI will immediately accelerate after stopping at a stop sign, no waiting at the line new in ver 2.1
  • AI does not slow down through curves, rain, or fog (will maintain speed limit) new in ver 2.1
  • AI does not slow down when passing the player with hazard lights on new in ver 2.1
  • Increased max AI vehicle count to 100 (up from 50) new in ver 2.1
  • Increased AI trucks hill climbing speed to 1.5x (AI trucks don't slow down as much going up hills) new in ver 3.2
  • Increased distance between AI vehicles to 1.0-2.0 seconds new in ver 3.2
  • Increased AI vehicle speed by 5 mph (needs testing) new in ver 3.2
  • AI stops exactly at the line, not 2-3 meters back new in ver 3.2

Things this mod DOES NOT change:
  • AI vehicle models and/or appearance
  • AI vehicle sounds
  • AI vehicle speed (currently working on a fix for this) possibly fixed in ver 3.2 (needs testing)
  • AI vehicles will still crash into each other on rare occasions
  • Traffic light timings
  • Vehicle spawn rates (how many of each type of vehicle, spawn rates in different environments/times of day, etc.)

Known issues:
  • After a collision, the AI vehicle will attempt to back up 10-20 meters (30-60 feet). If unable to do so, it will sit there until the end of time possibly fixed in ver 2.1 (needs testing)
  • AI trucks may not be able to recover from jackknife (will sit there until the end of time) possibly fixed in ver 2.1 (needs testing)
  • Traffic jams may be more common on side streets (AI on main road less likely to yield). At high traffic densities, this may result in gridlock. Workaround: use "g_traffic 0" (without quotes) to temporarily disable traffic
  • In construction zones on 2-lane roads, make sure you stop 5-10 meters (15-30 feet) before the sign that says "stop here", or else AI traversing the construction zone will not advance to the end (will sit there until the end of time)
  • In some instances, AI vehicles may stay in left lane exclusively and never move right possibly fixed in ver 3.3

Right of way is given to the highway traffic, NOT the ON-ramp. traffic merging from the ramp yields to the highway. the reason people get over(irl) is out of courtesy, not law, and because most people don't get up to speed while on the on-ramp before they try to merge. If it was the highway's job to yield to the on-ramp you would have people slamming on their brakes with people behind them doing 60-90mph..this doesn't even make sense, but people do it because they don't know the law, nor practicality.

Really like the mod excellent work, one big flaw for me however is the ai speeding.

I am doing speed limit +3 and I have AI trucks going at least +6 on straights and corners....could you have a look at it please?

Thank you! Instead of getting in your way, the traffic just goes about its business like normal. No slowing down, speeding up, with you, as you try to avoid them. What a wonderful concept for a game like this.

Not a fan of the traffic not giving way to the player sometimes. It's scary when I'm at a stop sign and nobody stops, or when I'm trying to merge onto the highway and the AI traffic is going a million miles an hour, comes out of nowhere, and crashes into my poor truck :(

I would like to ask you to make the AI traffic go 80mph in the passing lane, Just like irl in most rural areas.

Slow traffic seems to build up in the fast lanes on HW and interstates, leaving the slow lanes empty.

A car merging onto a highway does not have the right of way.
