Hardcore reloading

Description
UPDATE: Player character will no longer skip empty mags and will insert one if none from the mags in the inventory contain any bullets. Also it is now possible to attempt to chamber a gun with no bulltes. This is to simulate character potentially losing count of how many mags were used already and going through them once more, only to find out they all have already been used. So don't get surprised if you swap mags, "chamber" a round and still can't fire.

To further add to the simulation of fiddling with mags and getting lost with the correct order, there's now a 5% chance of your character picking a random mag from the inventory rather than best one during reloading. However, that chance can increase rapidly when experiencing anxiety, panic, pain, fatigue or drunkeness. Obviously this will be more noticeable as you go through your mags, because you can't pick up the wrong one if your pockets contain only fully loaded mags, after all.

WHAT DOES THIS MOD DO?

This mod brings back hardcore reloading from previous builds.

Are you a firearm enthusiast? Hate the arcade and gamey reloading of build 41, where you just press R and wait for the animation to finish as if it was some generic shooter game? Then worry no more, this mod is for you.
It behaves just like the hardcore mode of old. Below is the detailed description of the mod functionality.

  • Pressing reload key no longer fills magazines - it has to be done separately.
  • Pressing reload key when wielding a firearm with inserted magazine will remove that magazine and place it in player's inventory. That's it, nothing more.
  • Pressing reload key when wielding a firearm without a magazine, but capable of having one, will insert a compatible magazine from the player inventory with the most bullets in it.
  • Inserting a magazine with ammo (or filling internal magazine with rounds, for example in case of a pump-action shotgun) is no longer enough to fire - you have to manually insert the bullet into the chamber with a corresponding key (the same one used for clearing jams), unless there was already live round in the chamber, of course. That way you can get one extra round above magazine capacity loaded - insert full mag, put a bullet in the chamber, swap mag for a fresh one/insert additional bullet into the internal one, enjoy your extra shot.
  • When using repeating firearms (for example pump-action shotgun or a bolt-action rifle) you have to manually cycle your gun after each shot, no more automatic insertion of next round into the chamber managed by the game itself.
  • Pressing reload key while already reloading simply cancels the action, but doesn't rack the gun anymore.
  • When firing weapons not capable of fully automatic fire (semi-auto, repeating or assault rifles set to semi auto fire mode), you now have to release the mouse button to simulate releasing the trigger before being able to fire again. No more M1911 pistols firing on full auto.

That's it, hope you enjoy! If you have any questions, feedback, found a bug or whatever just let me know!

FOR BRITA'S USERS

If you want to use this mod functionality alongisde Arsenal26's gun framework, then don't subscribe to this. Use this standalone patch instead: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2672245351

Well, there's a chance but to be honest I'm going through some nasty shit and it's been like over a year since I touched this game, let alone its lua scripts... But yeah, I should probably update if it doesn't work anymore and also look at those compatibility issues mentioned below... Yeah sorry about that but at least you know I'm alive and still receiving notifications in this thread so once I feel better I'll try to look into it.

mmmh aparently this doesnt work with mods that do ammo overhaul, like Snake's ammo maker reloaded, the casings banish when firing/chambering a new round (shotgun for example), the ammo you fire is vanilla, yet the casing is modded, I verified it trying to find out why since I have the trajectory overhaul mod, kinda sucks, its actually fun to play with this modification.

COMPATIBILITY ISSUE FOUND:

This mod is causing issues with BRUTAL HANDWORK by not allowing it to perform the off hand attack or dual wield

You mean firearms B41? On one hand, the description claims it isn't compatible with anything that adds weapon-related mechanics and reloading is a weapon-related mechanics. On the other hand... I have it subscribed, so that means there's a chance I've actually been using it when playing myself and that'd mean it is compatible. Or at least was a year ago. For as long as it doesn't alter that one specific Lua script for reloading, then whatever else it adds or replaces won't conflict with my mod. So there's a decent chance that yes, it'll work. I guess no harm in trying, you can always come back with a log if somethings blows up.

Quick question, is this mod compatible with B41 Weapons mod? Thanks!

Sorry, i forgot to save the log in time. If I do get the error again I will post it here . Other than that, haven't had any issues using it in the last 3 weeks. Thanks fr he response

What kind of error? By the way, I haven't played the game since like almost a year, so don't really know the current state of the mod, how it survived game updates and so on. Guess I probably should check it out, but some info about what exactly has bothered you would be nice.

After pressing R with a rifle that needs magazines with none in the inventory caused an error. Dont know if its incompatibility
