Baku is a famous character in Chinese and Japanese mythology, a spirit-eater of dreams.

The elephant-like Baku (also written ) is an imaginary and composite creature from Chinese mythology thought to prevent or devour nightmares. It has the trunk and tusks of an elephant, the eyes of a rhinoceros, the tail of a cow, and the paws of a tiger.

The traditional Japanese bad dream eater, baku, comes from Chinese folklore and has been familiar to the Japanese since the Muromachi era (14th-15th centuries).
