Use a l4d2 guide, it isn't the same process. The devil's in the details.

I typically use this one https://gamebanana.com/tuts/11850 (I understand it's for tf2 and csgo, but I thought the same process would work for l4d2 models)

I think there's a bug with the tree tank rock, when the tank throws a tree chuck instead of a rock it explodes into a bunch of these trees.
