Loot for money
A very useful thing to do, especially early in the game, is looting your contract victims. The main reason to do this is because it will give your money a boost as the contract victims generally reward you with a lot more money than any guards you kill in free-roam mode. You also get goodies, which are important if you are trying to complete the shop quests.

One thing to note is that once a contract is complete the bodies usually disappear from the scene. So in order to get their goodies you need to loot the bodies prior to the mission ending. Most missions end with you needing to talk to someone so loot bodies before to go have that talk. As an example, when you recruit a new assassin go and loot the dead soldiers before talking to the citizen as once you have spoken the soldiers will vanish.

UPDATE: I have just discovered that if you hire thieves then they will rob the citizens and you get that money !! I knew this was a Revelations mechanic, but did not know (or had forgotten) it works in Brotherhood as well.

Borgia Messengers & Pick Pockets
Keep a look out for the Borgia Messengers as they are also a good source of income early in the game. Some can be a pain to capture and I have lost track of a few when they start running on the roof-tops. And if you spot the pick-pocket icon on your radar then try not to look in his direction until he is as near as possible as he will turn and run as soon as you spot him.

Capturing messengers will give you 1500f, but you only get 500f from a pick-pocket.

Also be careful not to let a pick-pocket actually bump into you and get any money from you. One time they managed to nick 48,000f from me. Yes, 48,000f !! Thankfully I managed to catch up with him and get it back. That may actually have been in ACII, but probably means it could also happen in Brotherhood.

You can spawn Borgia Messengers at will !! To do this you need to Fast Travel to any location. They will then spawn within 30-60 seconds of arriving at your new destination. Just find a vantage point to help scan for them. Note is makes sense to Fast Travel to areas that have few buildings so you avoid a roof-top chase for them.

Leonardo's War Machines
A little annoyingly, Ezio has lost some abilities since the end of ACII and you have to earn them back. This means completeing a number of tasks by destroying Leonardo's War Machines and you don't even get access to them until Sequence 4-8. Once you destroy one of his machines you get a choice of abilities to restore, which are the double-blade, leap higher (my first choice) and poison darts. As you destroy more of his machines you get more of the abilities back. And when all are destroyed you get the paracute.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Assassin Signals
You need to recruit citizens into your assassins guild to get your Assassin Signals. However, you can only recruit one for each Borgia tower you have destroyed. Not all regions of the map are available at the start of the game so you can't just go and get your full set of assassin recruits immediately. Even by the start of the 5th sequence 3 towers are still not available. Completing sequence 5 will open up 2 more towers and the final tower is not available until sequence 7 starts.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trowing 3 knives at once
A little skill Ezio learned in ACII was to throw 3 knives at once. This is also available in Brotherhood, but I don't remember seeing any tip/tutorial on it. Just as in ACII, the way to throw 3 knives is as follows: Have the knives equipped, hold aim (LMB) until the targets get a red outline, release LMB to throw.

You don't actually have to have a target locked on, you can just aim and throw.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wagon Wheel
The 3/4 buttons can be programmed to your particular taste. To do this, open the wagon wheel (hold Q), move mouse to desired equipment and then press the 3 or 4 key to alter it's action.

I'm not sure you can do 1/2 as I've always kept them as health and hidden blade.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Secondary weapon action

Something I've never really picked up on before. Apparently the weapons have an alternative fire method, basically hold LMB instead of click.

So for the poison blade it will cause it to act like a poison dart so can be used as a ranged weapon. The sword alt method is to fire the pistol. I guess that's where the throw 3 knives comes in as it's alt method.
Guild Challenges
An easy win on the pickpocket challenge is to bribe a herald and then pickpocket it straight back. The challenge is to accumulate 250f and as it costs 500f to bribe the herald you instantly get that back and complete the challenge - Simples !!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 25m dive challenge can be achieved from the top of the Island hideout. Simply dive off the viewpoint and then quickly tap the 'feet' (Spacebar) key. You have to be reasonably quick in tapping the spacebar, otherwise the achievement doesn't register.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One challenge is to leap from a horse to a beam 20 times. I found a good little spot to do this.

When you do the leap (tap space twice quickly) Ezio should swing round to end up on top of the beam (which is actually a rope in the location I use). If Ezio just dangles and then hauls himself up it does not register as a successful attempt.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At several points during the game you will hear a bunch of masked bandits shout (something like, 'Get him, he has lots of money') and chase after you. It is worth fighting these guys as once you kill them you can loot them. They usually have a decent cash reward and sometimes have useful goodies for the shop quests.

These bandits stop appearing in the game once the thief assignments are complete. So I'd suggest not rushing through to complete the thief assignments, that way they keep appearing so you can keep looting them once you've killed them !!

The final assignment (A Blanket Finish) is the one where you have to kill the three men on horseback. It's kind of a never ending mission as, if you want, you can just not 'escape the area' after the final horseman is dead as new bandits will keep on spawning until you finally get bored and escape the area to become anonamous again.

UPDATE: I've just seen a youtube video where the final horseback kill was successful so it didn't get into the bandit re-spawn Ioop described above. I think I may have been just too slow in trying to perform the horseback assassination and the bandit was leaping off his horse as he'd reached, what he thought, was the safety of the bandit district where his chums would come to assist. Little did he know I would cut them all down with my dagger !!

NOTE: Assignments are different to the Challenges. The assignments are the things with the 100% sync goals. I had though the last assignment was only accessible once all the challenges were complete. On my current play-through I have just discovered that I still have 1 challenge to complete, but have just done the 'A Blanket Finish' assignment. Funnily enough it is the very top challenge - use thieves 10 times on guards.

The Truth
Oops. Completely forgot about doing it this playthrough as I must have missed an explanation about it from the sarcastic bloke who helps Lucy with the animus !!

Use the Database > Locations info to help identify which buildings you need to do the eagle vision stuff on.
Credits
Not as long as some AC games - but still uninterruptible and last for 20 minutes.

Uplay Issues
Just a couple of threads that helped me sort out Uplay issues. There is, of course, no guarantee they are still valid fixes, but may prove useful start points.

Um, game launcher crashes what I try and start it up:

Great guide man, enjoyed reading, even though I know most of this stuff. I learnt some things though. Not doing those thief challenges for a while I guess :P Very good for beginners and intermediates :)
