The Charon is a heavy transport type ship with a big hangar and enormous amounts of lift-capacity.

It can bring multiple SVs into any high gravity environment and safely return with anything you looted from said Environment. Light weapons and armor, enough to get rid of pesky drones and gunships and provides some safety in case of unexpected shield outtages.
This ship is not intended for heavy battle situations, it is a support and transport ship.
