I love this great game and that's why I put effort into this guide! :D

01 - Playtimes & Pick-up Service

General information:
The game is "active" and still being played.
Unfortunately, there is no permanent play on the servers.
We play coordinated on 2 public game days a week, Wednesday and Saturday.
The Wednesday game runs on American evenings, the Saturday game on Europe evenings.
The most players are in on Saturday, because the playtime is for both continents comfortable.
On Saturday it's evening in Europe & noon in America, so both can well play together. ;o)
Saturday is the main game.

02 - Story

We live in a dystopian world.
The world is dominated by megacorporations and high tech world spanned computer networks.

We work respectively operate as combat clones. It gives two warring factions.
The Corporate Security (aka CorpSec/CorpS), they are private security guards,
and the Punks, the oppressed renegades.

We fight through the physical world to gain access, via Jack-in terminals (JIPs) to cyberspace.
The cyberspace is a three dimensional representation of the world's network.
Inside cyberspace we will launch programs to hack into systems,
linked to the physical world while fighting off enemy hackers and defending critical systems.
Our missions progresses through inter-linked physical and cyberspace objectives,
some are completed in either the physical world or cyberspace,
others only by a well timed combination of the two.

Whether you are a heavily augmented combat mercenary
armed to the teeth with the latest in firepower,
or a twitch reflex cyberdecker racing to infiltrate a cyberspace node.
You will be immersed in an action packed battle!
Only through skillful use of the high tech arsenal, that the big bosses making available.
Intelligent team play will captivate you and maybe bring us the win.
For the company! \o/
For freedom! \o/

03 - Basics

The goal of the game is to conquer objectives.
There are always several objectives to conquer one after the other.
The objectives are individual of each map.
The objectives can be in meatspace and cyberspace.
Additional things (sub-objectives) can also be hacked in cyberspace.

Depending on the server, there is one or two rounds to play.
You have up to 20 minutes to reach the target.
Friendly fire is always activated.

You will be reborn / cloned on spawn pads during a round if you die.
The spawn pads are linked to the objective.
Once you have conquered an objective, you will be revived at the spawn pads of this objective.
This is how the game progresses. (Some objectives can be recaptured)

There are 3 player classes: Lights, Mediums and Heavys.
There are 4 different weapons for each class. (Melee, primary/secondary weapon & grenades)
Each weapon has also a second weapon function.
Primary/secondary weapons can be recharged at ammo dispensers during gameplay.

There are implants, they have special functions/capabilities.
In total there are 14 selectable implants.
The number and type of wearable implants depends on the class.
The implants can be used as long as you have energy.
Energy recharges itself automatically.
Your available resources are health, armor and energy.

The game has 2 playable plains (worlds).
The real world (meatspace/physical body) and the virtual world (cyberspace/avatar body).
If you want to go into cyberspace, you must seek a JIP and wear a cyberspace implant.
Cyberspace has its own gravity and weapons.

There are 19 official maps.
The 'objective maps' ("dys_") and the 'phistball maps' ("pb_").
Phistball maps are sports maps, here you have to hit a ball into a goal.
And furthermore the community has designed over 100 additional maps.

06 - M-Menu

The "M-Menu" is the menu where you equip your player character.
(With "M" you open the menu)

You can change your loadout at ANY time.
It will then be implemented at your next spawn.
Even if you are spawned you can still change your loadout for this spawn.
You just must not have moved away from your spawn 0-position.

And you can create/delete/save/load your own clone loadout profile.

You will also find brief information from all weapons and implants. :o)
The 4 sections:

1. Select team
+ Info about 'Main objectives'. (hover with the mouse over the button "Punks" or "Corps")
+ Info about which players are already in the teams. (hover with the mouse)

2. Select class
+ Info about which players are in your team.
+ Possibility to load your own saved clone loadout profile.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Save and load your own clone profiles

The game already has some pre-made profiles...
but you can create, delete, save and load your own profiles.

How it works:
- Create your favorite clone completely assembled, class+weapon+implants.
  - Finish the menu with "Done!".
    - Go back to menu.
      - Now you can see under "Class", that on the right side an "History" entry has been.
        - If you click on this profile, you can rewrite and save it. ^^

(open picture in browser)

Now you can select your own profile by double-click and you're immediately ready to play! ;o)
PS: You can create over 50 profiles. But for now I decided for 3 per class... ^^

07 - Classes

(open picture in browser)

There are 3 different classes you can clone into:
- Lights
- Mediums
- Heavys

All classes are equally important and have their advantages and disadvantages.
though, they have certain benefits for which they are used.

- Lights and mediums can generally perform the same tasks.
- With 'Superconductor Capacitor Storage' implant, each class can increase its energy by +25.

Little pro hint¹
To climb ladders faster, use the "wallstrafe" technique.
Press at the same time left+forward / right+forward when you are at the ladder. ;D

General

For enter Cyberspace
Wear a "Cyberdeck" implant and find a JIP.
Press F1 to go in and out.
Press 1-3 to place or remove programs.

Cyberspace terms
Servers                       : The big rooms connected by tunnels in which you move.
Nodes                        : The little houses with the doors.
Barrier                        : The doors from the little houses.
Push-button screens : The screen buttons inside the little houses.
Programs                  : The tools you use in cyberspace.
Minigame                  : Buttons on the programs when hack. (Enables faster use of the programs)

IMPORTANT
With screen buttons inside the houses you handle sub-objectives & sometimes MAIN objectives.
Sub-objectives can be: Doors, turrets, lasers, traps, teleporters and much more...

Little pro hint¹
As a happier hacker, it is advisable to use the class with the highest energy
and the implant that gives you extra energy. ;o)

Little pro hint²
Disable neon-effect for an easier view.
(Options > Video > Advanced > High Dynamic Range > None)

Movement

Agility
When hold jump key, you jump the whole time.
When hold jump key, you will also bounce off the walls.
With a "Projectile jump" (like a rocket jump) you can jump higher,
shoot therfor a "Projectile" on the ground beneath you when start jumping.

Gravity
You can walk on walls and ceilings.
Find the white floor surfaces for change the gravity alignment.

Little pro hint¹
Projectile speed tubing. (very useful and recommended)
If you shoot a projectile sideways at the tube wall behind you, you will be accelerated.

Little pro hint²
Projectile wall climbing. (not required in official maps)
If you shoot a projectile at the wall beside-below you, you will be catapulted high.
With the right timing you can do this several times. (needs some practice)

Combat Programs

You have already read chapter "08 - Weapons".
So you already know everything about the 3 "Cyber weapons" / "Combat programs". ;o)

Cyber crystal / shard
After an enemy is defeated, they drop a cyber crystal.
Then you can pick it up and regenerate your energy with it.
The more damage you have did, the larger the crystal, the more energy you can regenerate.
This allows you to stay longer in cyberspace and finish your stuff. ^^

Little pro hint
The same applies to you.
The more damage you took, the larger the crystal you leave when defeated.
It may be advisable to exit early so that you don't leave a large crystal for your opponent.
If possible, you can jack out in a house occupied by you,
that your teammate can pick up your crystal in a safe environment and the enemy cannot.

Object programs

Programs are only at doors and screens.
Programs are build for protection or are used to break-in.
Each team wants to have supremacy over the houses and will therefore use both types.

Screen defend   (2x) : Password Protection, Encryption
Screen break-in (2x) : Password Crack, Decryption
Door defend      (4x) : ICE Barrier, ICE Mine, ICE Alarm, Green ICE
Door break-in    (3x) : Wedge, ICE Breaker, ICE Scan

Programs have a minigame included, that you can use, to solve programs faster.
(read next)

Minigame

Programs have a fun minigame included.
A certain sequence of buttons must be pressed to be faster.

How it works:
In the upper left corner appear terms, one after the other.
In this order you must press the buttons.
Thats all. ^^
(look at the picture with the yellow marked exaple: "sequence matcher")

You can play the minigame, but you don't have to.
The minigame plays itself, so you can just wait... ;-)

Minigame not playing              : Time 100%.
Minigame playing read-click   : Time 80%.
Minigame playing memorised : Time 50%.

The order of the buttons that have to be pressed is always the same,
but the buttons at the interface are arranged differently each time. :-p ^^

You don't need to learn the minigame by heart.
If you've played it every now and then you'll always remember a little bit more...
You can also read the sequence and then click, then you are still faster than just waiting.
(but as you read above, the minigame plays itself, you can just wait)

But if you want to learn the sequences, or want to make mnemonics,
all sequences are listed here on the right side, beside the pictures "build" & "break-in":

If you want to thank him for the recognition,
don't press 2-1, this is a 'team' command, only your own team will hears that.

Pictogramm overview:
Inside the game everything has to happen very quickly.
And because I don't learn them by heart, I made an overview.
I thought a pictogram overview would be the best choice to capture it fast visually. :)
- You can print it out and stick it at the bottom edge of the monitor. (I do it like this)
- Or you can put it on a 2. monitor. (The picture sizes are 1920x1080) ;-)

12 - Bunny hopping

Bunny hopping is possible at Dystopia.
It is possible without booster, but you are still slow.
But bunny hopping with using Leg Booster implant, then you are really fast. :D
(Everyone who has played twice does it or has it shown to them, it's very simple)

Advantage of bunny hopping - without Leg Booster implant:
- You can increase your speed on a slope.
- Your energy recharges while bunny hopping.

Advantage of bunny hopping - with Leg Booster implant:
- All advantages of BH without Leg Booster implant PLUS:
- You are much faster than normal on a straight.
- And because of much faster jumping you are a more difficult target.

Press the buttons as described:
Hold "Leg Boosters Sprint". (nothing happens, only implant is addressed and ready)
Hold "Jump".                         (implant charges itself, energy is not yet consumed)
Walk "Forward"                     briefly and then release all keys.
                                               (the booster immediately completely discharged!)
Now you just have to press the "jump" button everytime before touching the ground.
- with the direction keys you can change the jumping direction.
- with the mouse movement you can target things.

So it is possible to bunny hop backwards and fight an enemy that is chasing you -coincident!
I've experienced it.
I was just chasing an enemy who was on his way to my objective, we were both bunny hopping.
On a straight he turned around while jumping, activated the timer on his grenade,
threw it at me and it exploded on my nose!! -Finished, -Fatal hit!   :'-(   xD
That was really impressive. That means dude twincannon has took my objective. ^^ v52 v51

16 - Strategy

You're new,
but still want to have fun from round one, participate in the game and not be the last?
In Dystopia this is not a problem. :D
Here are some hints for you.

Hint 1:
You are not good at aiming?
You can use weapons that do area damage.

Hint 2:
You don't want to be cannon fodder at the front line?
You can use long distance weapons.

Hint 3:
You don't know the maps yet and don't want to run into the arms of the enemys?
You can use stealth implant.
(and just walk around on a server alone and explore relaxed the map (and the weapons))

Hint 4:
You also want to do points on the scoreboard?
You can use TAC implant (spotter) and Mediplant (medic) to score points.
If you continuously TAC, you will be easily in the middle of the points field,
and you help your teammates really well with TAC's.

TAC scan
 1
(after 3x using. only when enemies have spawned)
Mediplant
 ?
(when healed __ HP at a teammate)

Objective
15
  (recapture can be less)
Objective assist
10
(Stand close the objective, while a teammate captures)
Sub-objective
 5
  (capture and recapture)

Meatspace damage
 ?
Meatspace frag
 ?
Meatspace teamkill
-3
(full health teammate) (less when half full?)
Cyberspace damage
 ?
Cyberspace frag
 ?

Cyberspace hack
 1
(only for 'Password crack' and 'Decryption')

Miscellaneous
The following topics are the biggest challenges of all, for beginners AND veterans.

Hint 5.1:
Snipers
- Dodge - hide - be quick!
- Use implants that make the perceive between you difficult.

Hint 5.2:
Fight against a Heavy
- Dodge - be quick!
- Remember, their weapons have longer reload times. ;)
- Hit him! Hold on him! With everything you've got!! \o/ xD
- Think of his fist! When you have eye contact, don't get too close.
- Attack with your teammates, maybe wait a moment until your teammates arrive.

Hint 5.3:
Cyber fights
- Aiming is here the most important thing.
- Against good snipers hardly anyone has a chance.
If the opponent is too strong, call for help or replacement. Don't get frustrated, just go out. ;)
- For the best results, use the right weapon in the right distance and situation.
- For a longer planned deployment, choose the best clone loadout of all variables.
- Observe the environment and discover enemies in time.
(Observe your energy budget if you want to hack additionally)

But remember!
Several players have been around for a long time and are therefore good at the game,
and they also can use these hints here just like you. ;p
That means you probably won't see the sun for a while. ^^
But once you've played 3-5 public games with us, you'll be doing well. ;D

For veterans and returnees
When you recognize a new player or a much weaker opponent,
don't be too hard on him, you can let him win now and then... ;)
(If you are a beginner, forget that you read this) ;D ^^
You know yourself that beginnings are difficult, and you weren't good at it at first either.
And help him as best you can. YOU have a role model function!
YOU have to prove to him that we are a friendly community!

Other
You can also watch whole rounds as spectator and learn.
In first-person view of players, or in free flight mode...
And so you can also watch players in cyberspace and see how it works...
But after a time you want to go in and want to be in the action. ;D

Summary
Everyone can have fun in Dystopia. (^.^)-b

Console info

- To use game commands you need the console.
- The "console" is actually called 'Developer console'.
- The console is a window with an input line that is always displayed in the game's main menu.
- The console is an important component of 'Source' Games and therefore also for Dystopia.
- With the console you have the opportunity to interact with the game himself.
- You/everyone can use the console to:
Change map, restart map, change number of rounds, and much more.
(Admins have even more additional options)
- Every change is implemented as a VOTE.
If you are alone it will be executed immediately,
if there are other players, a majority must agree the vote.
- Every Dystopia player actually has the console activated.
- The console offers you an inclusive gaming experience.  :o)

(also "!list" in text chat works)

18 - External server window

Info:
With this option,
you can easily check with only 2 clicks at the taskbar, if someone is on a server.

                                                                                                                     (open picture in browser)

  - "Settings"
    - "Interface"
      - "Show Taskbar Preferences"
        - "Servers"

                                                                                                                     (open picture in browser)
The 2 clicks:
- Right click on Steam icon (Task bar)
  - "Server"

(Alternative: Steam window > View > Server)

19 - Advocacy

My personal advocacy arguments

- It's a totally innovative game, even today.

- The classes, weapons, implants and maps are incredibly well thought out.

- There are 2 worlds with different attributes in which you can played parallel,
   at the same time!

- It works very well on low performance computers.
(If you can switch on your computer, then Dystopia works also)

- Playable on Windows: XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, 11... (a rare game that is backward compatible)

- There is no lobby room you have to wait in, you can just jump into the game straight away.

- Don't requires a 3rd-party Account and don't requires agreement to a 3rd-party EULA.

- No in-game purchases, no microtransactions.
The game is free and you don't have to pay money inside.

- It's not a 'Mod', even if it's written on the shop page, you don't need half life 2.

- The game is so old, it doesn't have proprietary spyware included. (only microphone access)

- It's not inordinate violent and bloodthirsty as the newfangled games.
Yes, if you get hit by an explosive bullet, you don't fly around in one piece...
And if you get headshotted, your head flies around...
But because of the low level detail, it's more like taking the head off a LEGO figure. *plop* ^^

- It's a "Source" game, which means:
   - You can choose yourself which server you want to play on.
   - You can create your own server or rent one and provide it.
   - You can modify your server yourself. Maps, map rotation, plugins, sounds...
   - You can make votes for next map, restart map, number of rounds...

- The game has good education.
You can joke around with others using the 'voice comms',
but you can also say 'thanks' to your teammates and 'thanks' to the other team. Very noble. ^^

- The community is neat, helpful and we are funny dudes. ^^

20 - Further knowledge
So young trainee, I have written here your next steps,
where you can optimally expand your Dystopia knowledge for practice and theory.
Check it out in the following order:

Practice:
- Play the tutorial at game main menu.
  - Play a little bit alone or with a friend to train the things you have learned from this guide.

Theory:
- Read the guide Dystopia Rummagingbox
  - Read the guides Dystopia Maps & Dystopia Comics
    - Read the whole Dystopia Wiki. LOL xD (Link is in "Wiki"-chapter in Rummagingbox guide)

And hey, we would be very happy if you would visit us at a public game. :o)

Closing words

Thanks for reading the guide! :D

If you think the guide is helpful.
Then I would be happy if you could press the 'thumb up'.
The guide then rises higher, and more would read it. Thank you very much!  (b^_')o

Aaaaaand have a great day ma dude!  ヘ( ^o^)ノ\(^_^ )/
