Description

River Avon Shipyards, a subsidiary of Knightmare Defense Industries, presents the Cateran Class Corvette. A new design using components from Ayrx Weapon Enterprises and Aryx-Lynxon Epstein Drives, the Cateran offers excellent speed and versatility in a compact size. With long range torpedoes, a railgun, and point defense cannons, the Cateran can handle a variety of threats, while its two powerful Epstein Drives allow it to go virtually anywhere. The design is named for cateran, which were marauders from the Scottish Highlands of Earth.

The Cateran uses Epstein Drives and RCS thrusters from Aryx-Lynxon, producing 79 MN of force. The Jump Drive is only able to manage a maximum of 1,732 km, below KDI's normal standards for warships. The ship is armed with an Artemis 250mm Railgun, a 120mm Whirlwind Heavy Cannon, 2 Flechette Missile Launchers, 2 Astraeus and 2 Poseidon Salvo Launchers, 8 Guardian PDC's, and 4 Interior Turrets. A doppler radar unit has been equipped as well for long range ship detection. Power is provided by 8 Small Reactors with a battery backup system. The hull is mostly light armor, but reinforced around critical components and at the front. The ship has a survival kit and basic production facilities. Parachutes are attached for planetary operations, and there are magnetic plates on the thruster cones for unassisted landings. A remote control and camera have been fitted for horizontal flight.

I use a light changing script to switch around the interior light settings. Its an older script and I couldn't find the original creator. The script was updated by ColTeH for my use. I used some of Whiplash141's scripts on the ship, including their braking script for "flip and burn" situations, and a few of their mods for taking the screenshots. The mods I used to assist with the screenshots came recommended by Taidyr, who makes some fantastic content as well. Thanks to Keq, another excellent builder who helped me improve my interiors. I used Darth Biomech's Milky Way Skybox mod for screenshots. Links below. I got inspiration for this ship from ships shown in The Expanse RPG book, I highly recommend The Expanse's books and show.

If you want a quick color conversion, say to UNN or MCRN colors, then I recommend this block recoloring mod, which will greatly simplify the process. Color Replacer Blocks - V2

Please feel free to modify the ship to fit your in game needs. Just be sure to give credit to the original creator.

Author's Notes
Ow. I had a bit of a mishap on my bicycle the other week and scraped myself up a fair bit. Also I'm pretty sure I have a sprained thumb, making things even more difficult. That aside, let's get onto the ship. This design started out life as an attempt to build a hydrogen ship similar to the Monoceros. I wasn't super satisfied with the results though, and shelved the project. Recently though, I've been wanting to build with mods, including AWE and Erix-Lynxon Epstein Drives. It doesn't really fit the MCRN stuff I've set up already though, so I'm giving it the River Avon Shipyard green colors, which should be standard for the other ships I hope to make in this series. I should also note that the thrust can easily be converted to vanilla if desired. I also changed some of the design up, with the airlocks being on the side, rather than top/bottom. This is more in line with the book lore for The Expanse, and I think I'll be using that some more going forward. Anyways, ramble over, I hope you enjoy!

If you have any questions, comments or feedback about the ship, please leave them in the comments below. I'm always looking to improve upon my work. If you enjoy the Cateran Class Corvette, likes are greatly appreciated. Thank you for browsing this item. Safe Voyages! Papple.

Finally going ahead and making this an RAS (River Avon Shipyards) faction ship. It'll be related to KDI, but given that its modded, it doesn't fit directly in the KDI lineup. Also I plan on making more RAS ships.

@Forgi LaGeord wow this is a really delayed reply, lol. I suppose that could work, but I'm not sure I'd like it as much, for reasons such as the issues you stated. Interesting idea though.

With a little bit of tweaking (namely, putting those 1x2 slope base blocks on both ends of the staircase passthrough holes), you could even use the half-width armor panel slopes to have a switchback style staircase, albeit one that's pretty easy to fall off of. I'd really like to see some proper 1x2 stairs added to the game someday, aside from what you can get by rotating the solid original ones. Those wold be really helpful for more Naval style builds, having super steep stairs like that.

@Forgi LaGeord It was originally a bit of a stylistic choice, but honestly, it didn't even occur to me to try using armor panels now, lol. I'm rather new to having access to them (I don't play with mods much). I'm a bit used to using the glass, but I think armor panels would probably work better. Certainly would be more durable. I'll have to play around with it. Thanks for bringing it up.

This is just me making a big assumption about your build process, but if the reason you're still using 1x2 slope windows rather than armor panels was that you couldn't walk up the 1x2 slope armor panels without getting stuck, today's update of the armor panel hitboxes has fixed that, just tested it by replacing the glass with panels on this very ship. Just letting you know, ignore this if the glass is a stylistic choice.

Also fixed the thumbnail, added cross section, and cleaned up one other typo in the description. All within my lunch break... oh, wait, no... went over time... whoops.
