This is a fork and continuation of the mod Animal Armor: Vanilla, and uses Animal Gear framework to allow you to research, craft, and outfit animals with warm clothes and protective battle armor.

⚠️Artists wanted!
I am the technical manager of this mod and not so much an artist for its content. New artwork comes in via crowdsourced donations, or sometimes individual users commissioning artists and forwarding me the assets to fold in. If you're an independent artist and would like to join in on the effort, send me a message (this is not a monetized offer).

FAQ
Q. How do I get animals to equip things?
A. Technically, it uses the same system that pawns use to pick out and equip their own gear, which is as follows:
  1. Craft the item, and check the item's info card to see if the animal is listed as being supported.
  2. Store the equipment in a storage zone.
  3. Ensure the animal is allowed to reach the storage zone.
  4. Configure the animal's outfit the same way you would a pawn.
  5. The animal will go equip their armor within the next few hours.

Q. What is universal/placeholder armor?
A. This is equipment that can be worn by any animal, but lacks any custom art, so it's invisible. You can disable this feature in mod options, under the Vanilla Expanded Framework section.

Q. Does this mod support <insert animal-adding mod>?
A. All animals for all mods can at least wear the invisible placeholder armor. The following mods have a few animals with custom-made graphics:
  • Dinosauria
  • Spidercamp's Dog Pack
  • Vanilla Animals Extended - Desert (just the lions)
  • Vanilla Factions Extended - Vikings (just the Fenrir)
  • Alpha Animals

Q. Why is this mod such a big download? Is it bloated?
A. Its true size is more like 9 MB. The reason it's so big is because the textures have been pre-converted to .DDS files to reduce this mod's impact on your game start time. You'll want to have Graphic Settings+ to take advantage of this.

@Breadboy - I recently updated AnimalGear to 1.6 so it should be OK (I saw some errors with DDS-files and rhinos, but you could delete them without issues and it still worked, although I am not sure if that were just issues with the workshop)

I am not sure if people still use AG/Animal Equipment or moved over to Animal Apparel

Pro tip for the people: For some unexplainable reason, the mod maker DELETED the Universal armor from the steam files. if you want universal armor, make sure to go to the GITHUB page, go to Content -> defs -> then download everything in the ThingDefs_Placeholders . Then you want to replicate the placeholder file in your mod file, and add them all in!

The universal armor shows up then disappears from crafting benchs, I believe it is bugging out or creating its own error. If there a work around I would like to know. I can just make them with admin mode and seen it 4 times on bench but gone now. I also have tried turning the vanilla framework both true and false.

Found a soft incompatibility with shield belts. Animals are set to “Anything” upon birth. And if you happen to have shield belts as an allowed belt utility item, they will wear it. Once on, they’re invisible to our naked eyes… so we have to manually change their apparel policy. Once you do, they’ll drop their shield belt and magically show up. But worry not… they are seen by the colonists and enemies… but you’ll just be surprised they’re doing something with an invisible being. Lol!

This mod is pure XML and some textures, the code it requires is in the Animal Gear mod which is updated to 1.5 so this mod works flawlessly in 1.5.
