Introduction
In order to make Lavender's spirit whole you have to learn all her skills and max out these skills and her 4 attributes. Once you've done these things a notification will appear, letting you know that Lavender's spirit is now whole.

Click on the spoiler below if you would like to see what it looks like when this happens.

To learn new skills and upgrade your attributes, you'll need to spend SE (Spirit Energy). Nearly all of the skills and attributes will need to be be upgraded more than once to be maxed out.
Attributes
There are 5 attributes: Willpower, Strength, Defense, Speed and Special. When upgrading your Spirit, you should prioritize upgrading these attributes first.

Attribute
Description
Willpower
How much health you have
Strength
Will allow you to deal more damage
Defense
When attacked by a ghost, your defense value will be subtracted from the damage
Speed
The faster you are, the sooner you can act compared to the enemies. It will make it easier to land a swing or evade an attack
Special
Adds extra raw damage to your special moves

Tip: I found that improving your attributes in the order Strength, Willpower, Speed was most beneficial and to only upgrade defense and Special after having maxed out those initial three.

Skills
There are a number of skills that you will have to learn and max out in order to complete Lavender's spirit. Although there are a lot, personally I only used the special attack Pierce throughout the entirety of the game and the Flame skills sometimes as it made the last battle much easier.

Skill
Description
Observe
Costs no spirit energy. Analyzes every enemy, learning the color of their spirit, their statistics, and a comprehensive description of their battle tactics.
Pierce
Attack that ignores the ghost's defense and shields.
Shatter
Halves the opponent's defense for the rest of the fight.
Confident Swing
Gains some of the opponent's willpower and heals yourself with it.
Quick Attack
Attack and immediately start your next move before the opponent can take their turn.
Strengthen
Doubles your strength for the remainder of the fight.
Haste
Doubles your speed for the remainder of the fight.
Resilience
Doubles your defense for the remainder of the fight.
Sleep
Makes the ghost fall asleep for 5 turns. Hitting them has a high chance to wake them up.
Poison
Drains the opponent's health for 4 turns.
Flinch
Paralyzes the opponent for 4 turns.
Slash
Hurts all opponents with 3/4 regular damage.
Red Flame
Deal greater damage to red ghosts.
Blue Flame
Deal greater damage to blue ghosts.
Purple Flame
Deal greater damage to purple ghosts.
Combat
Combat in this game is turn-based, and will be initiated when you come in contact with a ghost.

The image below shows what the combat screen looks like.

There are 3 gauges in the bottom left corner of the combat screen: HP, SP & Turn timer.

Gauge
Description
How do I increase it?
HP/ Willpower
Decreases when you take a hit and if it reaches 0 you faint.
Eat treats to increase your HP.
Special Points / SP
Required to use special moves
Use the basic "Swing" attack to gain Special points. There are also certain treats that will give some SP.
Turn timer
Once its filled you'll be able to fulfill your turn
It increases automatically but the rate at which it fills up can be improved by upgrading the Speed attributes.

Once the Turn timer gauge is full you can press Z to open the command options. There are 4 options: Swing, Special, Pocket and Flee.

Option
Description
Swing
Perform a basic attack which will also increase your Special a bit
Special
Performs a Special move which are unlocked by upgrading Lavender's spirit. This costs some SP
Pocket
Open your inventory to eat a treat
Flee
Escape the battle

The damage that you will deal against opponents is determined by your Strength attribute, and your Special attribute will add extra raw damage to your special moves.

Ghosts come in three colors; purple, red, and blue, which you can find out using Observe or by simply looking at the color they are. This is useful because if you use the correct Flame attack on the corresponding colored spirit you will deal a lot of damage.
