Realistic Village: Mixed forest

Description
Made by Vera Historia and inspired by our Prehistory series. For people who love realism - accurate simulation (not replicate) of reality. If you rate and favorite this mod, we will make it even better :)

_______________________________________________________________

2 starting conditions:
  • Horde chieftain (Settled): lead a large tribe.
  • Head of the family (Nomad, easy): lead a very small tribe.

2 periods (game modes):
  • Peaceful times (Normal, easy): enemies are weak and take much longer to mass the necessary forces to attack you.
  • Harsh reality (Hardcore): enemies are strong and will mass the necessary forces to attack you faster.

Changes to original game:
  • Play in 500BC, when Iron Age spread throughout all the Old World.

  • More realistic landscape, with:
    • more realistic grass, forests and dimensions of the land forms.
    • more accurate climate, with adjustments to rain, blizzards, storms, temperatures and seasons length.
    • more accurate animals, that only attack people away from village.

  • More realistic village, with:
    • tens of tribesmen, that, like in historic Iron Age, can easily reach hundred(s) of people.
    • migrants are very rare, so your tribe grows through births.
    • inventing new technology is rare, so most new ideas are learned from neighbors (through trade). By the time you advance, your settlement has grown.
    • trade is dynamic. Frequency of traders will double when population will (usually) double, because when your population increases, so does demand for goods. And where there is demand, there is supply.
    • all researchable techs require only related tech.
    • your advancements will not cause fauna, migration, birth rate, prices or enemies to change. Therefore there are no population limitations.

  • More realistic neighbors:
    • neighboring warrior tribes will attack in large numbers, as they will not risk a suicidal attack. In the easy Normal mode "Peaceful times", they are very weak and will take 4 times longer to advance and attack.
    • isolated starving neighbors might still attempt desperate raids for food.

_______________________________________________________________

GAMEPLAY:
  • You can not place sticks work areas on less than 5 sticks; if you find less sticks, press C three times to maximize work area size, and rotate the orange circle around them, until it encircles nearby sticks and becomes yellow.

  • To check how many pregnancies you have, press F2 to open demographic stats, and hover over Adult Women.

Note: In all comments reporting issues, please also specify the mode and starting condition (like "Normal, Settled"), and as much details about the issue as you can, otherwise I might not be able to fix the issue properly.

SETUP (optional):

To play this mod, just press Subscribe, start DoM game, and go to New Game > Community > Realistic Village > choose a map > Start.

Graphics: if you want the graphics from the screenshots:
-download ReShade[reshade.me], open and select (or browse to) Dawn of Man, select Direct3D 10/11/12, leave the default selected effects (or select only FilmGrain,Technicolor,Vignette from the SweetFX package), and press Ok;
-copy ReShade_RealisticVillage.ini file from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\858810\2472349260\realistic_village to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DawnOfMan;
-open game, press Home and select the ReShade_RealisticVillage preset from the top drop-down list; press Home to close ReShade panel and play.

Sound: if, like me, you do not hear all animal sounds, people talking, birds singing, river flowing noise, or mammoth foot steps, just go to Settings and change Audio music/sfx/ui volumes from 10/10/10 to 0/10/1, and increase a lot your speakers volume (test near a river).

I've been sick and basically played this mod all day today. Just some feedback from my expierience:

- It's far too little resources to be able to get 1-2k villagers, I barely got to 100 villagers and im basically out of flint and soon out of stone within a reasonable distance.

-Trying to have a decent upkeep of armors and tools is impossible. I found a goot open spot on the edge of the map and as far as I've seen while scanning the entire map for whatever I need there is not enough of any kind of ore (copper, tin and iron) to get anything decent for 1-2k villagers.

- There seem to be a issue with village growth, I managed to get a stable food source for my 100 villagers, my prestige is 600/1000 and welfare is at 90-100%. I barely get any new villagers.

-There is absolutely not enough megalithic stones either.

-The animal life is good for hunting before you get settled with barn animals, but apart from boars and the occational cattle I found no tameable animals at all.

Is it part of the map or a bug that there are no young capricorn and mouflons after the first years ? This makes it very difficult to start breeding animals as the trader usually does not have any or only males or females.

Has anybody ever gotten the large city state milestone on hardcore? Im giving it my best at hardcore but I cant get my population above 200 averaging 90+ wellness. I get to the 6th wave and they just have way to many to handle by that point even with full tech, armor and towers. I love the difficulty this brings especially the birth only factor.

CONCLUSION, Completamente DESBALANCEADO. Corrigelo macho

Muy poco recomendable:steamthumbsdown:

With the family start, I can get a low workload, plenty of food and space, but my population will not go above 8-10. Pregnancies are super slow, elderly keep dying, and a least once a year a child gets murdered by a wolf in the middle of the village.

Nice MOD. I have tried the start with the large tribe and it is challenging.
I would prefer less frequent traders at the end.

Started a game on normal settled. 0 tribes attacked/0 migrants came

Iron age unlocked but only able to make stone-aged goods made buying nearly impossible. Unlocking techs myself became tedious and grindy at the increased cost rate.

Birthrate was bad. No access to early tech meant most women were elderly when I finally unlocked some better stuff and my 130 starting pop aged/died losing 80 people in 2 years. 15 adult women/2 pregnant when it finally stopped. After 10 years-pop only grew to 59.

Not having any animals except pigs/wolves/deer to hunt for tech points/meat was crippling.

If you unlock all of the tech ages/make starting age items worthless you may want to consider giving access to some lower tech otherwise most villages will death spiral before you unlock Totem Poles. Either we’re in the iron age or we aren’t.
