Flying Boat "Tarapirohe"

Description
Imagine an alternate timeline where flying boats never died out. Coastal cities and island nations all over the world are serviced by sea planes and flying boats landing on oceans, lakes, and rivers. In this timeline lives the TFK Heavy Industries SP/C-52 Flying Boat. With 4 powerful turboprops and a large interior, the SP/C-52 is essentially a C-130 that floats. With excellent taxiing qualities due to its differential thrust capable full reversing propellers, the SP/C-52 does not need any tugging and can be fully operational without any ground support. These versatile machines can be outfitted for a variety of roles, from freight or passenger transport, to search and rescue and maritime patrol.

This particular aircraft, the Tarapirohe, (ta-ra-per-oh-he, and roll the Rs) was one of 4 Tern class models built for Island Courier Airways and flies a regular service throughout the Pacific Islands. Outfitted with a generous freight deck and comfortable passenger compartment with luxury seating for up to 30 passengers, complete with restrooms and galley, the Tarapirohe connects the South Pacific's tropical islands.

General Characteristics:
  • Crew: 2
  • Passengers: 30
  • Length: 43.5m
  • Wingspan: 46.75m
  • Width (Beam) 4.25m
  • Empty Weight: 35.5t
  • Max Takeoff Weight: 140t
  • Fuel Capacity: 62000L
  • Powerplants: 4x TFK HI400-D6 turboprops

Performance:
  • Maximum Speed: 260 knots
  • Cruise Speed: 200 knots
  • Range (Cruise): 2800 km
  • Service Ceiling: 12200 m

Instructions:

Spawn this at a dock, but make sure NOT to spawn this at the creative island dock, or any other U shaped dock. It will get stuck lol. Sometimes it's best to only start the two inboard engines to get away from the dock without damaging your props.

Enter through one of the doors located on each sponson.
The aircraft can be flown from either seat, no control switching necessary.

Start Up Procedure
On the overhead panel:
  • Master Battery switched to ON
  • Avionics switched to ON
  • Instrument Lights switched to ON if desired
  • Nav/Strobe/Landing lights switched to ON as appropriate.
  • Engine Fuel Pumps switched to ON
  • Engine Ignitions switched to ON
Once the engines have started and their RPM has stabilised at 10%
  • Left and Right Generator Governors switched to ON

Taxi:
The aircraft is best taxied at 50% RPM or greater. It is fitted with a differential/reverse thrust system for ease of manoeuvring at slow speeds. They are engaged via the seat yaw and pitch lever respectively. These are disabled at higher taxi speeds for safe take offs, so don't be too much of a hoon.

Take Off
  • Point the aircraft into clear water
  • Increase prop pitch to full
  • Increase engine throttle to 100%
The aircraft will speed up and lift off by itself once it has gained sufficient speed. It is possible to perform a shorter take off by pulling up early if desired.

Flight
  • The aircraft is best turned realistically with the roll, it will naturally enter a coordinated turn in the direction of the roll.
  • The rate of turn can be increased with some yaw input.
  • Once airborne, decrease the Engine Throttle to around 70% for the most fuel efficient cruise at 200 knots.
  • Engage the Altitude Hold with the button on the overhead panel. If no altitude is entered into the number pad it will hold the current altitude.
  • Engage the Autopilot by inputting coordinates on to the keypad and pressing the Auto Pilot button, both on the overhead panel.

Landing:
  • Landing and gliding is still a work in progress. I'll have it doing both really well soon and update the file when I do.
  • At the moment just reduce engine RPM to about 19-18% and hope for the best lol

Known Issues:
I had to post this a bit earlier than I'd like because it was for JSI's building competition and I ran out of time, so there are a few rough spots still. Other than the gliding and landing performance not being quite finished yet, the cargo elevator is a bit jank and will also be fixed very soon.

Please let me know in the comments if you find anything else wrong or have any issues.

As with all my builds, do whatever you please with it. No permission required. Reupload it and call it your own lol, IDGAF.

Just got this and I love it but I have a problem with it. When I spawn it in it keeps sliding to the right, even when I'm in air as well.

@captianguy if you're having trouble reading the instructions on how it can already do that, feel free to add some propellers yourself.

u should add little propellers on the side things underneath the entrance so u can maneuver in water

When I was little I thought the C-130 could float
