The Tile Palace

Description
A place where Eden's wisest do battle not with their weapons, but with their minds.

This mod adds a new zone, The Tile Palace, to OSFE. It's complete with unique enemies, enemy scaling, a dark world, and a new boss - the most unique boss the game has ever seen.

How do I play Eden Chess?
Regis will challenge you to a game of Eden Chess. If you're familiar with regular chess, that's cool, but this is way cooler.
- Touch the item Regis tosses to start the game
- Defeat Regis to win
- You can move the cursor with the movement buttons and select with the Weapon button
- When a piece is selected, its movement range will be shown. Select a destination to move it there.
- Pieces can't move through other pieces
- After a piece moves, it will attack tiles in an area similar to its movement range
- If you destroy an enemy piece, you get a spell that will summon it for you on an empty tile (though at half health)
- If a Pawn or Lance moves all the way to the other side of the board, it is promoted into a Bishop or Rook respectively

In Eden, the Knight pieces are called Lances (and move as they do in Shogi) because its totally legit lore that I just made up.

Having trouble? Here's some strategic tips for the battle:
- On your first turn, ensure your King isn't in the range of his Lances.
- Early on, focus your fire on one of his pieces so you can add it to your hand and start evening the numbers.
- Become familiar with how much damage each piece does:
Bishop: 150
King: 120
Lance: 120
Rook: 80
Pawn: 60 (120 on Trinity)

The game breaks if you have HP loss and hit 0 because of it while you're placing a piece. Because of that, I had to stop using the mod so I wouldn't softlock my runs. Otherwise, it's pretty cool and creative.

You're amazing, thanks so much! Genusagi is Regis' original creator and the one who though up that idea of him yawning and getting impatient - I'll be sure to pass this along to her.

In the meantime, she's working with another modder to redo his sprites and make him a playable character (I've offered my assistance as well) - so maybe one day!

Hopefully you're able to make him playable! I'd love to try him out, everything about this mod is really cool!

Thanks all for feedback!
- I'll add Tutu to the disabled artifacts list for the fight and maybe look into adding a failsafe for the turns so yours will always come up after X seconds.
- Updating Regis' execute so it can't miss and cause strange behavior
- Regis might be playable one day? His creator, genusagi, gave me permission to use the character as a boss for the Tile Palace, so it's up to them to finish his sprites and give him the spells and artifacts to be a playable character.

It seems I managed to softlock myself by killing the pieces before they completed their turn against me, so I wasn't able to start mine. I kept shuffling but nothing helped. It was that one ability where you do like... 100 damage to every square around you when you shuffle.


Though, this mod is fantastic! I really enjoy the concept of this! :steamthumbsup: The idea of a chess boss battle in this sort of game is super cool and unique! I really like it!

I just ran into a bug with Dark Regis. I lost the chess battle, he went to kill me but aimed at the very back collumn and missed me, i was in the middle close to the border. After the attempt to kill me, he decided to restart the fight asking me to fight him in chess. Thankfully I'm not good at the game so it ended a run I didn't really care about, but I dont want the same thing to happen to good players.

The Stability Update!
- Pets no longer break the Regis fight
- Fixed some stability issues with the Regis fight, will hopefully be more consistent now.
- Regis Assist now works! (If you've updated your MoreLuaPower). Spawns a pawn that promotes into a bishop if it makes it to the opposite end of the board.

A reminder that Steam Workshop is bad about auto-updating mods so you may need to unsubscribe & resubscribe to get the latest.

The Enemy Update!
In the first version of TTP, the enemies were mostly an afterthought, mostly just designed to show the player what attacks the pieces in the final battle use. While they still serve this purpose, the enemies in TTP have been updated to be less weird & buggy, spend less time on the player field, and provide a better challenge for the player en route.

Check the change notes if you're interested in specifics.

Hopefully this version of the enemies will be a bit more fun to fight. Thanks go out to everyone who has downloaded the zone so far!:SaffronLove:

The next update will be focused on stability fixes for the Regis fight.

Wow almost 200 subs! Hello everyone!
Haven't worked on TTP in a while as I've been re-doing the sprites on my custom character and re-tooling her kits. Rest assured coming back to TTP is in the queue right afterwards, starting with some stability improvements to the boss fight & updates to the normal enemy AI and functionality.

There's a lot of code at work making this mod do things that the game really isn't made to do so it's bound to be a little buggy, but I'll be updating it soon so you can more confidently include it in your runs without worrying about a potential soft lock (sorry to those who've had that experience).
