Description
The year is 1590 BCE...
The Near East is the fulcrum of the world. The Kingdom-States of Egypt, the Hittites, the Mitanni, Assyria, Babylon and the proto-Greek Mycenaean Confederation dominate the region, and vie with each other to assert dominance and expand their wealth. Great shipments of Tin from Afghanistan and Cornwall are imported to the region, to be combined with local copper to make the most valuable resource on Earth; Bronze. Great trade routes, shipping gold and grain from Egypt all the way to the Minoans and Mycenae in exchange for elaborately decorated pots, vases and other items, criss-cross the Mediterranean and make many a merchant very wealthy. In the Levant, the expansionist Empires of the Anatolian Hittites, the Syrian Mitanni and the Nile-bound Egyptians clash for control of the region, all while in Mesopotamia Babylon stuggles for survival against the Barbarians of the Persian mountains and the ever-growing threat from the lurking Assyrian state upstream. In the Aegean and along the Anatolian coast, the city state of Troy and the island kingdom of Minos struggle to maintain their independence against the growing powers of the Mycenae and the Hittite Empire. From inside however, these great Kingdoms are built upon a bedrock of vassals and fealty. The victorious King of the Hittites was slain by his own brother upon his return to Hattusa, a plot to sieze an Empire that has left many of his vassals questioning their loyalty. In Lower Egypt, the hated Pharaoh Apepi rules an unsteady Kingdom, a tyrant ruler born of the Hyksos invader. The many Heri-Teps of the realm resent their occupation, and seek to bring the foreign Pharaoh to his knees. In Upper Egypt, the old kings of the 17th Dynasty still rule, and plot their return to the lower Nile. For every King, a thousand plotters lie in wait. The world is all to play for...
