Ancient Silk Road and Taklamakan Desert

The year is April 1906

With his team and faithful dog a British explorer who was born in Hungary started to travel to Kashgar through the nearby hills to map and discover the forgotten treasures, documents and archaeological sites of the ancient Silk Road. His name is Aurel Stein (Sir).

Between 1900 and 1931, he led four major expeditions to Inner Asia.
His second expedition, in 1906-1908, led him through the Taklamakan Desert to the Gobi Desert. During the expedition, he found a collection of hidden manuscripts in the famous East Thousand Buddha Caves near Dunhuang (东千佛洞石窟), as well as excavating forgotten section of the ancient Great Wall of China (more than 10,000 li length).

The Taklamakan Desert did not have any infrastructure at this time with extrem climate, sometimes 30 degrees warm during the day and up to -20 degrees cold at night. The altitude is almost 2000 meters, but the surrounding mountains (Pamir, Kunlun, Tian-Shan), which have to cross to the desert are towering in places with snow-capped peaks 7-8 thousand meters high.

Az év: 1906. április

Egy magyar származású brit kutató csapatával és hűséges kutyájával elindul Kasgárba a közeli hegyeken át, hogy feltérképezze és felfedezze az ősi selyemút elfeledett kincseit, dokumentumait, régészeti leleteit. A neve (Sir) Stein Aurél.

1900 és 1931 között négy nagy jelentőségű expedíciót vezetett Belső-Ázsiába.
Második expedíciója, 1906-1908-ban már a Takla-Makán térségégen keresztül a Góbi sivatagba vezetett. Az expedíció során talált rá a híres dunhuangi Ezer Buddha Barlangtemplomokban (Ch’ien Fo Tung) rejtett kézirat gyűjteményre, valamint feltárta a kínai nagy fal ősi, több mint 10000 li hosszúságú szakaszának egyes elfelejtett részeit.

A Takla-makán sivatag ebben az időben semmilyen infrastruktúrával nem rendelkezik, a klíma szélsőséges, nappal 30 C meleg, éjjel akár -20 C hideg is előfordul. A tengerszint feletti magasság közel 2000 méter, de a környező hegyvidékek (Pamír, Kunlun, Tiensán), amiken át kell kelni a sivataghoz helyenként 7-8 ezer méter magas hófödte csúcsokkal tornyosulnak.
