-Ship History & Description-

The Laconia class of ships started out as a general set of requirements set forth by the Imperial Defense Requisition Bureau. These requirements were for a heavily armed, mid to long range patrol vessel. However, the Bureau also requested that the cost of production had to be less than 9 billion Imperial Credits per vessel. This was done in the hopes of getting a long-range light cruiser at roughly a third of the cost. While design submissions were open to anyone, the cost requirement was proving to be prohibitive for the usual defense conglomerates. This is where Ishimura Deep Core Mining, Khurkov Heavy Industries, and Fergusson Arms stepped in and submitted their design. Each company contributed in part to the overall design with the experience gathered from their own ventures in industry specific spaceship design. This led to a to an exceptionally unique and compact vessel that oddly enough is far more spartan in regards to crew amenities than any other vessel in the fleet.

Part of the savings on the cost of production came from the overall size of the vessel, being only slightly larger than a corvette class of ship, while still retaining the firepower and features of a light cruiser class. Other cost saving measures came at the expense of crew, crew amenities, and all passenger space. This resulted in the ship only being able to fit a maximum crew of 12, requiring even the ship’s command staff to utilize rotational bunking. The class also lacks any form of holding cells or passenger quarters. This has resulted in the class receiving a particularly brutal reputation, as standard operating policy requires these ships to destroy or disable any enemy target and then abandon it, relaying its last known location and trajectory to any nearby vessels for retrieval, if there are any. As a final note in regards to a disgruntled crew, this class of ship is notoriously despised by their ship board engineers for their compact nature. Often requiring a ship’s engineer and any assisting crew to perform repairs and maintenance in EVA suits from outside the vessel. Lastly, the Ishimura, Khurkov and Fergusson conglomeration were able to cut costs through breakthrough advancements in automated drone mining technology, pioneered by Ishimura Deep Core Mining’s R&D Department.

The Laconia is categorized as a light destroyer and is the smallest among its class of vessels. Its small size allows for an extreme ease of maneuverability and acceleration often only afforded to the smallest of patrol vessels. This ship itself carries a heavy assortment of forward-facing weaponry. This coupled with the ship’s speed and maneuverability allow for lightning fast hit and run attacks, allowing the ship to even do a post burn flip and coast on its thrust while still firing as it retreats. The most notable feature is attachment points along the hull of the vessel. This allows the class to attach an ever expanding assortment of weaponry or ECM systems, expanding the class’s mission profile beyond it’s already wide scope.

-Author's Note-
This project started because a long while back ago, someone commented on my fighter build that I should make a large grid version of that. Well, after a long break I’m back and did just that. Thanks again for the suggested, this was one of those projects that almost never ended. I would constantly think of new things to add to the ship. Thankfully it’s only so big. Anyways, I hope y’all enjoy it, she’s pretty fun to fly and blast things with. Probably best used in a group, or picking on things around her size or smaller.
