TREKORION: Virginia class Ti/Na supply frigate

7 slot early to mid game miner and freighter.

Refit from the Magellan class frigate with longer nacelles and two large cargo pods, shield generators, hyperspace cores, and naonite turret mounts.

Tested 4 Virginia class vessels on an insane difficulty galaxy: the USS Virginia, Norfolk, and Richmond (constructed in sector -78:333) and the Alexandria (constructed in -131:386).

These were fantastic r-mining and salvage ships and became the turning point from early to mid-game strategy.

The ore mined by Virginia class starships literally built Starfleet on their test galaxy. The materials were used in or sold to cover the construction costs of: three 7 slot Loknar class frigates, three Nautilus class frigates, a 9 slot Ares class destroyer, two 11 slot constitution class vessels, a 9 slot Saladin destroyer, 3 Mk2 Loknar trinium refits, four Mk2 trinium Saladins, a 12 slot trinium constitution class, 11 asteroid mines, and two 11 slot stations.

The Virginia, Norfolk, and Alexandria operated exclusively as r-miners, and were originally of all iron and titanium construction. The Virginia and Norfolk operated in Naonite space with the Alexandria deployed in the iron reaches to ensure a large supply of ferrous materials. The Richmond started as a miner, but was later armed as a dedicated repair and salvage vessel.

The Virginia was lost to persecutors in sector -63:259 after I failed to notice she had not followed her escorts to the next sector. Her loss lead to the Alexandria taking her place as a forward miner.

The Richmond was lost in sector -48:231 when a random pirate squadron exited hyperspace right next to her and opened fire with high om antimatter cannons.

The Virginia class became obsolete ~200 sectors from the core when limited hyperspace range and an inability to equip trinium tier turrets limited their mining capabilities. The ship was replaced by all Trinium constructed, MK2 Saladin destroyers.
