Overview
With the introduction of mods that increase ablative points** on your soldiers, I thought, wouldn't it be nice if I can somehow regenerate some of it. This is already doable with Additional Vest Types (Bubbleweave) but you are restricted to that one vest if you want to regenerate ablative points. Enter Shield Generator: a utility item with the ability to regenerate ablative points during battle.

Notes**
1) Originally Iridar's Defensive Items Overhaul, then [WOTC] Iridar's Armor Overhaul and also my own [WOTC] Ablative Vests. [WOTC] Reinforced Underlay Plus also introduces additional ablative points for your vests. I am sure there are other mods that do the same.

Feature list:
  1. Adds a new utility item to the game which can be carried in Utility slot: Shield Generator.
  2. Buildable in Engineering after you have researched Shieldbearer Autopsy.
  3. By default, shield regenerates 2 ablative points per turn, up to a maximum of 6 per mission (configurable).
  4. Costs are configurable. Default is 50 supplies and 1 Shieldbearer corpse.
  5. From playtesting, this item can be quite powerful so I have set this up as a limited item i.e. you can only build 3 (configurable). If you ever lose the item because of squad wipe or sold it on Black Market, the item will show up again in Engineering once you drop below the set limit. Configuring this to 0 or negative value will make this item not buildable.
  6. Yes, it does stack with Bubbleweave but it does make Bubbleweave less mandatory for ablative regen. Other vests become a lot more desirable.

Requirements
  • Just XCOM 2: War of the Chosen. Quite standalone this one.

Known Limitations / Issues
Nothing is perfect my dear friends.
  • It is possible that there might be issues. If you see any issues, please let me know :)

Compatibilities
Should be compatible with almost anything.
Mid campaign installs: If you have not done ShieldBearer autopsy, you are OK. If you have, then just do a "GiveTech AutopsyAdventShieldbearer" (without quotes) console commmand.

Companion mods
Of course carrying this item with zero ablative points on your soldier makes no sense whatsoever. I highly recommend the following mods to be in use with this mod.

is it possible to remove the regen limit by setting it to 0/-1 or do I need to set it so high that typical missions won't last long enough or see the soldier take enough damage to burn through it all?

I run into a situation where if a soldier equipped with the shield generator gets downed and enters bleeding out state, upon reviving them, I noticed they lose the ability to regenerate their shield until the mission is over. Have you figured out a way to overcome this issue?

By the way i don't find it so powerful, for.ex. namomedikit provides 6 hp (equivalent to this 6 points of shield) + poison immunity for a carrier + it removes different negative effects (burning etc.) + it can be used with medic perks, this thing just regenerates shield points, thst's all.

Well, personally, I would like to make this item universal and really expensive tool for my special characters... And yes now the mod is like old radios: transmitter and receiver - separate items. :snaggletooth:

I will consider it. You can already get a lot of ablative/Shield points from other mods really.

So it just regenerates shields, it provides none, doesn't it? Why haven't you added a configurable parameter to make it provide shielding? It should be a shield GENERATOR not shield REgenerator, should it not? Could you please add this parameter... Please!

Yeah I use Ballistic Shields too and does work with it.
