Minerva IV Class Destroyer

Description
Introduction:
(Vanilla, DLC Required)
A powerful Destroyer class vessel, Minerva IV brings high levels of protection and firepower to the battlefield.
The ship has advanced weaponry and defensive systems, including a silo of 4 guided missiles, a powerful gatling multicannon, and a suite of launchable countermeasures.
This is the fourth version of the Minerva class ship, which has seen significant improvements over its predecessors.

Capable of flight on all planets. The ship is survival ready, although sub grids for missiles and chaff will need to be constructed if building in survival.

Background:

The latest upgrade of the successful Minerva class Destroyer, Minerva IV pushes the base design to its fullest potential. Compared to its predecessors, the ship has been upgraded in numerous areas - most notably firepower, protection and crew capacity.

In terms of firepower, the most notable improvement is the addition of two more guided missiles, bringing the total to four and enabling the ship to overwhelm heavier point defense than before. Furthermore, two additional turrets have been mounted to the underside of the hull, bringing the total to 12.

Protection has been improved by uparmouring of internal and external areas of the ship. The spaced + single layer heavy armour on the underside protecting the engine compartment has
been replaced by a double layer of heavy armour. The cockpit armour has been improved as well, reducing the front window size somewhat in favour of increased protection. Additional
spaced armour has been applied to the front-sides of the ship. Internal armour has been optimised around both the engine compartment and the control room.

In addition to the droppable chaff seen on Minerva III, launchable decoy rockets (adapted from the Cerberus battleship by Lord Commissar) have been added to both sides of the upper hull.

Finally, various internal changes have been made to improve crew capacity and comfort; something lacking in earlier designs. The crew quarters have been increased in size, now housing 8 cryo chambers. In addition, the armoury/toilet area next to the cockpit has been converted into a VIP cabin. The control room now leads into a recreational area, with a table, bar and cooking facilities.
These changes come at the expense of a small amount of hangar space, although it should still be ample to house most small ships.

Design and Specifications:

The ship is designed with frontal protection/firepower in mind. Protection is largely layered heavy or composite armour (light + half heavy) from the front, upper and lower hull, with the heaviest armour focused around vital compartments.
From the side and rear the ship largely relies on external and internal spaced armour.

All 12 turrets are capable of firing forward at the same target. Guided missiles can be used to devastating effect from a distance, while the turrets, rocket launchers and gatling cannon provide excellent firepower at close ranges.
Each weapon is self-repairing, allowing the ship to sustain fire for long periods while still being combat effective.

The ship uses a hybrid hydrogen/ion thruster system, and can fly with either or both systems enabled. The hydrogen thrusters allow sustained flight on all planets. Overall Minerva IV has good mobility, despite being a somewhat heavier vessel than
its predecessors.

Minerva IV features a fully enclosed hangar, full refinery/assembly facilities, medical facilities and crew quarters capable of housing 8 crew members.

Hydrogen Capacity: 6 Large, 17 Small
Cargo Capacity: 1 Large, 5 Small
Jump Distance: 1,147.21 km
Main Power Source: 1 x Large Reactor
Additional features: Launchable Countermeasures, Weapon Auto-Repair system, Hangar bay, full refinery/assembly facilities, medical facilities, crew quarters

Capable of planetary flight, tested up to 1.20 g with approx. 400,000 kg cargo

Missile Controls

ctrl-4 to access missile control bar from either flight seat, these are the default controls set up on the ship:

1 - fire
2 - access camera sight
3 - switch lock
4 - switch targeting mode
5 - spiral mode on/off
6 - stealth mode on/off

Notes: As the four missiles are packed quite closely together it is not recommended to use the "alpha" command to fire all simultaneously as they often collide when launching. Instead pressing "fire" four times in quick succession will allow four missiles to be in flight at once.

Scripts Used: Whip's Auto door and airlock system, WMI Radar, Fancy Status Displays, LAMP/WHAM, ADN floor plan, simple inventory display
