Introduction.
Welcome to this guide. I know you guys wanna go in and talk to people for whatever reason. But before you do that, you need to know what VRChat really is and the most common types of players in this game.
Types of players.
1. The "Cliques" (or as I like to call them, the kings and queens of the session)
(Average age: 15-28)
Let's explain the first and most common type of player (or group of players) in full sessions you'll see in this game. These "Cliques" are people who have joined the session before you and have already made friends and found people to talk to. If you are a male, most of these people will ignore you if you try and approach them since they already have a group and don't want anyone else joining it. If you are a female, even though you have a significantly higher chance of getting recognised, might still get ignored.

2. The "Simps"
(Average age: 12-19)
These are the 2nd most common player type. These are the boys (horny teens/lonely teens most of the time) trying to find some girl interaction in VRChat. Not to be confused with The "Averages" (See reference below) who will talk to almost anyone, The "Simps" will ignore almost all social interaction with people of their gender and go straight for the females. The "Simps" can either full on show and say they are one or they can try and hide it from the public. If you are a female and you interact with these types of players, they will shower you with attention and love and care. If you are a male and you interact with these types of players, you will either get ignored or blocked.

3. The "Averages"
(Average age: 15-41)
These are... Well, average people. They are not looking for a sole individual/group of individuals to talk to and will talk to almost anyone and everyone who interacts with them. If you interact with this player type, you can expect some nice casual conversation without any problems. This player type is uncommon in today's VRChat.

4. The "Female Queen"/The attention seeker
(Average age: 12-21)
These are the females that like the attention they get from The "Simps". These females are queens of the session they are in, because of all the attention they get by The "Simps". Approaching this player type is extremely difficult due to the high amount of attention they have to give out due to The "Simps". These types of players are usually extremely big babies, and if you don't grace them with the love they want, they will really hate you. There are 1/2 players of this type per filled lobby.

5. The "Mutes"
(Average age: ???)
These are the people that won't use a microphone. The reasons can range from a broken one to having one, but being shy. These people are usually scattered around the lobby and aren't really talking to anyone (for obv. reasons). Approaching The "Mutes" usually results in either being ignored or an extremely one sided conversation where half the time you won't understand what they are trying to tell you by hand gestures, but can still be fun if done correctly. The "Mutes" are a very common player type.

6. The "Female Mutes"
(Average age: ???)
A subsection of The "Mutes" but still deserving of their own category, these are the females that will not use a microphone due to the known fact that The "Simps" will instantly stick to them. This player type hates the attention they get from The "Simps" so they try and hide the fact they are female by not using a microphone. If you try and interact with this player type, most of the time you get the same results like with The "Mutes". This player type's rarity is unknown.

7. The "Squeakers"
(Average age: 8-12)
These are the babies of VRChat. Usually new players, The "Squeaker" is a player type with a very high pitched voice. Interactions with these players are usually sub-par, sometimes they can be annoying, other times they are funny. This player type is common, having 3-4 (could be more depending on the world) in every filled session.

8. The "Depressing"
(Average age: 14-26)
These are the people who have a very deep voice and talk about deep topics like drugs, alcohol, self-harm. These types of players are usually very sad, and interactions with this type of player will usually make you end up feeling uncomfortable and sad as well. This player type is uncommon.

9. The "Avatar Enthusiasts"
(Average age: The "Avatar Enthusiasts" can be found within any age range)
Despite the name, The "Avatar Enthusiasts" don't create avatars. They are people who will mainly talk about and have fun with the avatars they have favorited, usually because they have problems with thinking of actual real life topics to talk about. Interactions with this player type can be good or bad, depending on what you want to talk about with the other person. This player type is common-ish, having 2-3 per filled session.

10. The "Furries"
(Average age: 14-21)
These are furries. Big shocker, right? I don't want to explain what a furry is because this player type is not a VRChat player type, it's more of a "in real life" player type. The "Furries" have only recently become common enough to be actually considered a player type in VRChat. The "Furries" usually wear an anthropomorphic animal avatar. This player type has a very special case of it's rarity, due to the fact The "Furries" usually come together in a single or two sessions in a given world, hence those sessions becoming "Furry Sessions". In other sessions, The "Furries" are rare.

11. The "Show Off Couple"
(Average age on both parties: 15-19)
This is a couple in VRChat who likes to show off. What I mean by this is that they will go to a public world, stay infront of the mirror in said world and virtually cuddle with each other. These people are usually mutes, because they are talking on discord. Interactions with The "Show Off Couple" will always result in you getting ignored, in the best case scenario getting waved at. This player group type is rare, being found once every 4-5 sessions you join.

12. The "Annoyances"
(Average age: Estimate unknown, not enough sources.)
These are a bunch of different player types bundled up into one due to their extreme similarities. They will usually not participate in conversations, but will use their microphone in one of four ways:
-They will be talking to someone else outside the game.
-They will be blasting music through their mic or using an application to play music through their mic.
-They will be playing stupid/funny soundboards.
-They will be singing their songs, not paying attention to anyone else.

These players usually do this to try and get attention from other players in more unusual ways to feel more special. However, most of the time, they are just annoying for others and get muted. Interactions with these types of players are borderline impossible due to their ignorance of the other people in the session. This player type is uncommon, being found once every 2-3 sessions.

13. The "Otakus/Weebs"
(Average age: 12-24)
There are Otakus and Weebs. Both have been put into one category due to their similarities. These people will usually talk about anime, and nothing else is on their mind. Conversations with this player type can be very fun and lasting or extremely one-sided, depending on your own player type. Due to the fact VRChat is a heavily anime-oriented game, this player type is common, having 3-4 per filled session.

14. The "Grinders"
(Average age: Estimate unknown, not enough sources.)
These are people who want to grind their way up the ranks, aiming for the top: The Trusted User Rank. Usually these players are a part of The "Mutes" and will just sit in a world, staring at themselves in the mirror. There people usually have extremely simple worlds and avatars uploaded simply to grind the ranks, due to the known fact you need your own worlds and avatars to get anywhere beyond the rank "User", two ranks away from the top. This player type is uncommon, usually being seen once per 2-3 filled sessions.
Types of players part 2.
15. The "Funny"
(Average age: 13-19)
These are people who will usually be extremely goofy and won't really take VRChat seriously. What I mean by "not taking VRChat seriously" is that they won't really talk about anything real life related, but will instead do roleplay or just fool around with in-game items (for ex. a slice of pizza or a root beer bottle). This player type usually wears funny or stupid looking avatars. Interactions with this player type are fun and they are usually open to everyone, unless they are already a part of The "Clicks", in which case they'll ignore everyone outside their group. This player type is common, having 2-3 per session, but could be more depending on the world. There is also the case of a "Funny" making others become a "(Funny/Unfunny)" themselves due to how fun it usually is to just fool around with them.

16. The "Toxic"
(Average age: 13-23)
These are the bad part of The "Averages". They will talk to anyone, but... You won't be having any nice and casual conversations without problem. To explain, The "Toxic" is a player type who will start off having a normal conversation for a range of 3 seconds to 2 minutes, and will then start insulting you while talking to try and seem more friendly/funny, insults continuing and intensifying as he talks more and more. If you insult them back, they will call you weird and block you or leave you. If you tell them to stop, they will call you a baby or weakling (I've heard instances of "Pleb" as well, but it's not common) and go away from you. Interactions with this player type are fine for a range of 3 seconds to 2 minutes, and then, if you don't like being insulted, become annoying. Usually, if you notice someone start insulting you for no reason, they are a "Toxic". This player type is rare, being found once every 4 sessions.

17. The "Unfunny"
(Average age: Estimate unknown, category subjective.)
A subsection and the opposite The "Funny", These are players who will try to be funny, but fail miserably. Obviously, comedy is subjective, so this player type is subjective as well. Someone might be an "Unfunny" to you, but will be a "Funny" to someone else. Interactions with this player type will be extremely awkward and annoying to you, and should usually be ignored. This player type's rarity depends on the amount of types of comedy you find funny.

18. The "Client Monkeys"
(Average age: Estimate unknown, not enough sources.)
This player type has 2 versions.
-The one who talks about VRChat's code/SDK features etc.
This is the more uncommon version of a "Client Monkey", since not many people actually know how to code. This player type is the one who knows about coding and wants to show off by talking about all stuff in VRChat's code, the SDK etc. They usually do this to either garner attention in a more interesting way, or just find someone else with common interests. How much you'll enjoy interactions with this player type depend on how much you know and are interested in everything about coding.
-The one who uses a modded client.
This is the common version of a "Client Monkey". This player type is the one who has installed a custom client of VRChat, or cheats. Cheats in VRChat consist of noclip, avatar polygon threshold bypassing ETC. This player type uses these cheats to attract attention in a more interesting way, however usually, it fails and ends up being annoying for everyone in the session. Interactions with this player type are extremely vast, and I really can't tell you what to expect. It's like a Pandora's Box, so proceed interactions at your own risk.
A disclaimer.
No player is stuck to a single player type, and many players can be more than one of these. I myself am an "Average", sometimes an "Annoyance" and sometimes an "Otaku".
VRChat Terminology.
VRChat doesn't have a lot of specific terminology you should know, but there's a little bit that would be best if you knew before you went in.

1. A "Crasher"
This is in avatar that has been made with the specific purpose of lagging/crashing your game. Since mods can bypass the polygon threshold, people can upload avatars that have extreme amounts of rendering involved, therefore your GPU not being able to handle it, and from there, crashing your game.

2. A "Modded Client"
This is a version of VRChat that has been modified by third parties in some way, usually to give people the ability to use cheats, like noclip, teleporting etc.
Hardware specifications and headset recommendations.
Some people clicking on this guide might need to know if their computer can even run VRChat! (Spoiler alert, it most likely can.) and which headset to buy to experience the game to it's fullest.

Here are the minimum hardware and software requirements to play VRChat:

OS: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10
Processor: Intel® i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350 equivalent or greater
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 970 / AMD Radeon™ R9 290 equivalent or greater
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 1 GB available space (more is highly recommended, due to download of custom avatars and worlds.)

As for headsets, I'll go over the most popular ones very quickly.

The Oculus Rift S: This headset is the go-to for budget VR gaming, coming in cheap (I bought it on sale for 300 euros) and doing the job well enough at the same time. That doesn't mean it comes with no problems though, the software is extremely buggy at times and... It's owned by Facebook, ugh.

The Oculus Rift S has been discontinued in favor of the Oculus Quest series. I still suggest opting for Oculus if you are middle class, otherwise going for a Valve Index.

The HTC Vive: I've never owned an HTC Vive and barely know anything about it. You will need to search on Google for this one.

The Valve Index: I've never owned The Valve Index but I know that this headset is the best there is, offering best quality and least bugs. The problem is the price. 1,1K euros for a headset is an extreme amount of money. If you have money to blow, go for this. Otherwise, stick to the cheaper options.

Windows Mixed Reality: I've never owned Windows Mixed Reality and barely know anything about it. You will need to search on Google for this one.

If you want my personal preference, when you ratio the money to the features you get, The Oculus Rift S is the best, while the Valve Index is way more expensive, but also better. I have an Oculus Rift S, as you could've maybe guessed by now.
What to do as a new player?
As a new player, do whatever you want. You can either become a part of The "Simps" and pay attention only to females, or be a part of The "Mutes" and just listen to how others are talking, without you yourself participating. If you want to talk to people though, I'd suggest going to sessions with half of the maximum player count. It really helps because The "Clicks" become more and more common as the size of the session increases.
Hope you enjoyed!
Thanks for reading. Good luck, VRChat can be an absolute wasteland and you gotta be careful navigating it to not stumble into the annoying, bad player types.

This guide is being updated regularly as I find, study more player types and also fix errors or inconcistencies. Be sure to check in once in a while to get an updated version of the guide.

You can also request any player types or terminology you know about to be added (I will credit). Let's make this the ultimate guide for beginners together!

i would recomend the HP reverb G2. mid priced but has better graphics than the vive and index. its far supior to the rift S which is no longer availble new as meta who own occulus stopped making them in favour of the quest.

only draw back is frame rates its restricted to 90fps by windows mixed reality. But vertualy no screen door effect and its 4k.

double the price of the quest but half the price of the index and vive. Plus with a bit of tinkering u can pair it with base stations and the knuckle controlers from index.

ive only ever met one content creator and no voice artists, so im sorry to say but in my experience those are way too rare for me to make them a "player type".

You kinda skimmed over content makers and voice artists.

@General Moo what are you correcting me on more specifically? is it The "Clicks" should be The "Cliques" instead? @Twixie sorry to hear bro but trust me, nobody's voice sucks you just gotta use it. if it's more unusual if you ask me it will actually attract more attention rather than get you none.
