Terraria Boss Ideas 11 - Extended Lore
By Okami Tomato
The lore entries of most of the Boss Ideas 11 bosses also had more in-depth descriptions that were ultimately cut in order to minimise the amount of headings on the page. However, wanting to both preserve what I had, and to still provide the extra lore stuff for anyone who wanted it, I decided that I could make it for a different page and release it alongside it instead.

As usual this is not a guide, just used to store information in a clearer and neater way, and that this is themed more around modded content rather than vanilla.

Additionally I'd recommend looking at Boss Ideas 11 first so you can see the bosses themselves in more detail first, since this is more of an expansion from that.

Anyways, enjoy :)

This page, when completed, is intended to contain extended lore for all of the bosses present in Boss Ideas 11. It is considered to be an addition to Boss Ideas 11 for anyone who is, for whatever reason, interested on reading up more on the bosses than what is usually seen in the Lore section on their official boss pages.

Technically speaking, spoilers may be present for some bosses, and some information may grow outdated in the future. For the former it shouldn't be much of an issue, since Boss Ideas is already quite a niche thing without many big mysteries people are invested in, but for the latter you should take more recent lore as being the main source for canonical information, as it is the most up-to-date accounts most of the time (unless I backpedal and make it non-canon for whatever reason).

If you haven't seen Boss Ideas 11 yet, then this page likely won't be of much interest (unless you like reading the descriptions for nonexistent bosses from a page you haven't seen yet :P)

Anyways, enjoy :)

01 - Icy Serpent

The Icy Serpent is similar in biology to the Wyverns that fly through the skies, though it seems to have adapted to and almost become part of the snowy tundras that it thrives in.

How it ended up living in the snow instead of the sky is unknown, as it still retains a free ability to fly. Perhaps it began to prey upon the tundra's creatures as they provided a better food source than the flying creatures in the Wyverns' home, or perhaps it fell from the sky and asserted itself where it landed?

Whatever happened, it grew and adapted to the ice, even being capable of using ice magic and having its back sail be full of icy water. It lost its limbs and shortened its ears to perhaps better conserve body heat, or perhaps because they may have hindered its burrowing.

Whatever its origins, it now spends its days burrowing or flying through the ice and snow; devouring almost any living creature it encounters with haste before disappearing into the cold again.

02 - Dragon Harpy

Harper, as her title states, is actually both dragon and harpy. Born of a harpy mother and a half-dragon father, she was deemed somewhat of an outcast due to fear for possible destructive abilities that may have emerged as she grew older.

Some of these abilities did indeed manifest.

She became a fairly adept loner when it came to survival, capable of using falcon-like tactics to even strike Wyverns out of the skies she controlled. Many years living on her own made her a skilled hunter, but very lonely. Eventually, she attempted to return to the rest of the harpies as she deemed the loneliness too much.

While initial attempts failed, she eventually came to the attention of Skye who, too, was technically only half-harpy. Skye managed to get her integrated back into their civilisation, though sworn to protect Skye should a disaster situation arise.

03 - Acidic Chimera

A man-made Chimera, built for an unknown purpose. The creatures it was made from are hard to pinpoint, though its thin but durable legs are somewhat spider-like, and its thin wings and hive-like tail suggest a creature like the Queen Bee.

Far from the only Chimera, but notably one of the most hap-hazard in terms of how its creator designed it. Its body seems unfinished, its movements unusual for something this size, its lack of eyes, ears or a nose, and having holes carved through its body.

The Chimera also seems to be very protective of its eggs. These eggs are, in fact, entirely useless; they don't carry any sort of DNA and the insides of the egg are just gooey acids, yet it still guards them fiercely, like some sort of parental instinct still lingering in its mind from before it was made into the chimera it is now.

[Added: 1/11/20]
04 - Slimera

The other 'Chimera' creature, but this time a very loose version of the term. Its metallic spherical core is filled with vast amounts of data from various creatures, both slime and otherwise, which seems to power and control the gelatinous body that coats and guards the core.

The core's metal isn't a solid case, instead filled with various crescent-shaped holes too small to really see from within the slime body. The reasoning for these holes is uncertain, but they seem to have been added intentionally and carefully; each evenly-spaced across its body.

Its creator is unknown, but it can be assumed that they may have been the same person who created the Acidic Chimera seen previously, due to its actively destructive nature and reckless attitude that the both of them share.

05 - Solstice

Solstace are unusual cosmic creatures with a strong attachment to light and gold. Their bodies lack any sort of visible eyes, or any obvious place a heart or brain or any other sort of organs would be located, and yet they still move like living entities, at least to some degree.

Legends state that Lunar constructs; large, marble coated sentries of an even more powerful entity, were sent out throughout the universe. The reasons uncertain, but they also mention that each of these constructs had with it a group of smaller vessels similar in description to the Solstice.

These Solstice seem to be without their construct, however. They seem to be wandering without any real objective. Their construct, therefore, is likely destroyed; leaving them to wander without a function or any commands being given to them.

It is unusual that they are able to survive without their constructs, though, as their nature would make it seem they were dependent on the Lunar constructs to survive. Perhaps, then, there's more to this than it may appear.

06 - Blacklight

Blacklight's creator is unknown, but its purpose is certain. Blacklight was a mirror-like creature tasked with the capture and eternal containment of a powerful, ancient creature. Despite Blacklight's humble appearance, it was able to seal and contain its target, at least at the time.

However, as ages passed, the creature held within slowly became able to influence Blacklight. Slowly, over a long period of time, Blacklight was gradually falling more and more under their control. Its body slowly cracked, and fearing the worst it sealed itself away and remained entirely dormant; unable to be influenced in this state.

Its awakening on your hands, as is its defeat. Now that Blacklight has been destroyed, what of the entity that was formerly contained within?

07 - Zazabaan

Zazabaan has been creating, testing, and piloting a vast assortment of machines for decades. Deemed some sort of technological prodigy at an early age, he had always been fascinated with the inner workings of technology, which lead to an eventual career as a military engineer.

However, the dangers became swiftly apparent as a machine he was working on was targeted by a mysterious super-weapon. Zazabaan was deemed dead, buried under the machines, but had survived. He had to gradually replace much of himself with machinery due to his injuries, and ultimately quit and became more of a mercenary for hire, using his deep knowledge and newly-mechanised body to become nigh-unstoppable.

His experiments also later lead to the creation of what he called 'Refined Adamantite', said to be a the purest form of Adamantite that had far more potential than what can be forged under normal circumstances. He rebuilt his body using much of this material, and created his now-signature railgun; a hand-held cannon which such destructive power that he programmed it so that only he was capable of utilising it.

Zazabaan ended up working for many people, including power-hungry tyrants who wanted nothing more than complete and uncontested rule. Most of them gave up or perished, and eventually Zazabaan retired and seemingly vanished off the radar, until recently.

08 - Levialous (Incomplete)

Levialous' origins seem impossible to track down and work out. He simply just 'appeared' one day, and after some sightings became somewhat of an urban legend. The fact his entire past, his motive, and even his true form are obscure makes any knowledge on him highly sought after, but those that poke around in his business often go missing.

One thing that has been detected, however, is that his cloak seems to absorb all light it comes into contact with, much like many of the Chaotic Entities that plagued the world long ago. This is worrying as it was believed that all Chaotic Entities had either become passive, or had been destroyed. This cloak, and the fact Levialous' blue body seems to actually just be some sort of armour, is therefore deeply concerning.

09 - Sungazer

The Sungazers are a secret cult-like organisation with an unknown gathering place. Their members all wear the same cream and gold robes, and usually go out of their way to master their pyromancy abilities until they become the thing they almost-solely rely upon for combat. Anyone can theoretically join, if they can be found that is.

They seem dedicated to the worship of what they deemed a powerful but mysterious winged celestial entity. Their depictions show them as humanoid, with long hair and a large set of wings. Depictions are often vague, but usually try to compare her to the sun when possible, often by surrounding her with an aura of light.

What they don't know, however, is that the being they worship is actually just the harpy princess Skye. Skye is aware they exist but, despite her pleads for them to stop several times, they remained hopelessly devoted to her. After her attempts proved fruitless, she left and has since never interacted with them, only fuelling their devotion.

10 - Skye

Skye is a half-harpy, born into a royal bloodline amongst the more civilised part of harpy society. Born of a harpy mother, but an unknown father, she was both with both a pair of arms and wings as opposed to just wings. Normally such a trait would deem you an outcast, but her royal blood meant she retained her position.

She seems to have also gotten a natural talent for pyromancy from her father, whoever he was, which then attracted the attention of a group of anonymous individuals who created a group known only as the Sungazers. Despite telling them she wasn't some sort of solar deity, they continued their devotion, so she stopped trying to reason with them and just ignored them instead.

Skye has also, in her time, encountered several of the previously-mentioned outcast harpies, one of whom was the Dragon Harpy which she befriended and granted access back into their civilisation despite her partly-dragon heritage having otherwise excluded her.

11 - Tenebris

Tenebris' body seems to be a congealing mass of Chaos Energy, all swirling around beneath the underworld. It may have bee stored there intentionally, or may just have slowly gathered there as Chaos Energy slowly seeped through the earth.

Tenebris itself has no known origin. It seems directly tied to the Energy, meaning it may be created in a similar way to the other Chaotic Entities, but grown much larger due to the vast quantities of Chaos Energy its body can be composed of. However, perhaps because the Energy was in a congealing state, it didn't form the most standard, humanoid form seen taken by other Chaotic Entities.

There is one theory, however, that explains what Tenebris may be. Some time ago an entity named Terminus had tried to resurrect its fallen master, using a large amount of gathered Chaos Energy in the process. He was stopped, but the Energy he had gathered seemed to disappear. Perhaps, therefore, Tenebris is a failed attempt at resurrecting the Chaos Doppelganger, and all that formed was something vague and eye-like.

12 - Hive

The HIVE is a large, mechanical worm built to resemble a beehive. Its entire body is full of small holes for bee-like drones to enter and exit through, and most of its mechanical interior is hidden away and cannot be accessed even though these holes, likely to keep its inner workings safe.

The shell, on the other hand, is harder to explain. The machine does not seem to directly be built for combat, looking more like some weird beehive simulation project, yet each of its various segments is protected by a durable and solid plate of armour, complete with holes that align with the holes in its actual body to allow easier entry and exits for the drones inside.

Its creator is also unknown. It has no signatures, no data logs, no references to a creator in its code, even. Perhaps whoever created it wanted to remain anonymous due to being embarrassed, or maybe there's a little more to this than what it seems at first glance.

13 - Jelly

A large, humanoid slime of unknown origins. All we can safely say is that she holds some sort of importance to at least a few slimes; enough so that some have even copied her image and sworn to protect her.

However, this does bring up some questions. How does a slime specifically hold its shape, for example? Jelly seemed almost a unique case, able to hold a specific form without assistance, but then that doesn't factor in her Guards, which can do the same.

Why a human form? Surely a humanoid body wouldn't really be all too practical for something whose body is composed mostly of something more liquid than solid? Regardless, Jelly retains a human shape.

Definitely an unusual case, and probably best we don't ask too many questions.

14 - Chlorophage

The Chlorophage is a large biomechanical sphere, coated in grey armour. They are seen dwelling in the underground jungle almost exclusively, digging their long tendrils into the soil, almost like how a plant digs its roots into the earth.

Also similar to a plant, the Chlorophage does this to gain resources. While a plant gathers nutrients and water, the Chlorophage is trying to gather vast amounts of the jungle's abundant Chlorophyte. It digs its roots into the ground where it has located some, and using an acidic chemical compound dissolves it down into a liquid state before absorbing it directly into its roots. It then reforms it in pure form in its spherical body.

Once full, a Chlorophage will swiftly retreat into the jungle's depths, and won't likely be seen again until it returns empty-handed. Whoever it is that controls them likely has vast reserves of Chlorophyte stored, but the reason as to why one can only guess.

15 - Cinder Siren

The Cinder Siren was a siren born originally in the sea, as most sirens. She spent much of her life in the ocean's depths, never approaching the surface in favour of remaining near to a collection of hydrothermal vents.

One day, however, a seaquake occurred that caused the vents she was near to crumble and fall into an underground cavern, only to be sealed over as more rock and sand shifted into its place. The Siren, the vent, and what seawater followed them all tumbled into the cavern layer, and ultimately dumped the Cinder Siren into a pool of lava while the water drained away deeper into the caves.

Unexpectedly, the Cinder Siren survived in this pool of lava completely unscathed. She assumed it may have been because of her living habits before, though she was uncertain. She also managed to relocate a group of worms from the insides of the now-defunct hydrothermal vent and brought them with her, watching them all grow larger and more powerful over time.

While she survived the ordeal and has in theory actually thrived somewhat from her new home, she can't help but miss her family out in the ocean, and longs to return to them again someday.

16 - Charlotte

Charlotte was a spider princess once, and technically still is, but surrendered her position of power long ago. The spiders her father used to rule over had a grizzly way of ensuring their monarch did their job well; if they didn't they would be eaten by their own people. Her father, unfortunately, was deemed to not do his job well enough, and before she could be given the role of queen in his absence she fled.

The Strider was the only spider to come with her when she left. Striders were often used as mounts, almost like how a person may ride a horse for transport or battle, due to their size and strength, and so she left atop a very loyal Strider when she fled. The Strider doesn't care for its old traditions, and seems to have a strong bond with Charlotte.

The Spider Queen that followed the duo, however, is from a rival colony. While Charlotte and the Strider may not have been aware of it, it was highly likely that the other Queen would have been somewhat aware of Charlotte's royal heritage, and would have deemed her a threat. She is, really, quite lucky to have found you, then.

17 - Blacksteel

Blacksteel was a powerful warrior from far-off lands many centuries ago. He had been known for his unconventional armour, coated in blades, and his habit of taking the swords and daggers from fallen enemies. His conquest ultimately ended when he came face-to-face with a powerful, red, serpentine dragon which decimated his army and himself, seemingly with very little effort.

Blacksteel swore vengeance, and at that moment a strange man with purple fiery hair approached him and offered him nigh-immortality. Blacksteel accepted before blacking out, only to awaken in the spherical state he has been in ever since.

He slowly discovered his unusual ability to control certain types of metal. He gradually gathered chunks of the metal, stealing them from a band of serpents, and used these chunks to forge his dozens of blades that orbit his body. Blacklight still seeks the dragon that claimed his body, aiming to claim its life in return.

18 - Festering Mimic

Mimics have been around almost as long as chests have been used as common storage. Using what would otherwise be a fairly save haven for a traveller being turned into a threat in itself brings stealth not seen commonly otherwise, though most mimics eventually find themselves destroyed at the hands of a well-equipped explorer after a poor decision to attack an enemy that they had no real way of defeating.

However, mimics that grow old have a different problem. Their bodies are similar to the chest type, and for wooden chests this means cracking, rotting, and infestation. The Festering Mimic is a perfect example of this; so successful in its youth that it became old enough to become overrun with parasites.

While it likely doesn't give the mimic any pain, due to them seemingly lacking nerves, its gradually-deteriorating body will eventually give in, becoming little more than housing for insects as they burrow through it. Perhaps it should have taken a different disguise when it formed?

19 - Greed King

The Greed King, in life, had been a greedy king. He gathered vast sums of wealth and deposited it deep within his castle, regardless of what this meant for his subjects. The older he got, the more he craved gold, and the more underhanded and cruel his tactics became for getting it.

Slowly, his subjects began to leave him. Townsfolk at first, but soon his own soldiers began to leave as he was gradually deemed a lost cause even by his closest friends. Eventually, everyone left him. However, with everyone else gone, the castle began to fall into disarray without the king's knowledge. Due to his poor planning and bad management, the castle collapses off of the cliff it was situated on and plunged into the sea, bringing the king and his fortune down with it.

The sunken remains of the castle can still be found beneath the seabed, legends say. Legends also tell that the castle is haunted by the spirit of the king and that, even in death, his obsession with his wealth still holds him tightly.

20 - Levialous - Half-Complete

Levialous' grand plan began to come together. Gathering Chaos Energy together, he gave himself immense strength in order to attempt to accomplish a feat only attempted once before: He was going to try and resurrect the Chaos Doppelganger once more and unleash its fury upon the world.

It seems the rumours of his existence were not rumours at all. Levialous was no more fiction than the Moon Lord, and his threat was real. However, for many, it seemed too late to stop him, except for you.

It is unknown what happened to Levialous after his defeat at your hand. Perhaps the pillar of shadows just teleported his wounded body elsewhere so he could recover, or perhaps he was truly stopped once and for all. We will just have to wait and see...
