Description
The heart of the underground
As terrifying as the forest floor is, what lurks below it is much, much worse.

Thara, also known as the heart of the underground, is the sole mother of an entire species of spiders creeping below the forest floor. She destroys her foes by poisoning them and summoning life at will. She turns the battlefield into her nest by taking advantage of her minions for stage control, using her webs as powerful disjoints, and poisoning opponents to set them up and finish them off.

Main Gimmick – Poison, minions & webbed effect
Thara marks her prey with poison when she strikes with NSPECIAL, FSPECIAL, or FSTRONG. Once a poisoned opponent is struck by a minion, they are wrapped in webs and launched upward.
While webbed, foes are trapped in 80 frames of hitstun, or until they touch the ground. When the cocoon bursts, they’re struck again, setting them up for strong follow-ups. If Thara lands a hit on a webbed opponent, her knockback is amplified by 1.25x.

Dspecial – Hatch
Thara shoots a projectile upwards that turns into a minion once it hits the ground. She can aim for their position using the control stick. The projectile can give the webbed effect to opponents even if it didn’t turn into a minion.

If a minion is already on stage, Dspecial makes them explode.

Nspecial – Widow’s bite
Thara grabs the opponent using her web strands and bites them, poisoning them. If used on a minion, it will receive the “poisoned” effect.

A poisoned minion doesn’t need the opponent to be poisoned to give them the “webbed” effect, walks faster, and has a bigger explosion hitbox than a normal minion.

Fspecial – Epic Flip
Thara shrinks into her abdomen like a turtle and flips in the direction she’s facing. If she doesn’t touch the ground before the attack ends, she goes into pratfall. She can fastfall during the attack.

If she touches an opponent, she grabs and bites them, poisoning them.

If she touches a minion during FSPECIAL, both Thara and the minion get launched upwards with minimal lag.

Uspecial – Hatchling launch
Thara shoots a projectile upwards that turns into a minion once it hits the ground. She can aim for their position using the control stick. The projectile can give the webbed effect to opponents even if it didn’t turn into a minion.

If a minion is already on stage, Uspecial immediately kills them when the attack starts.

I'm consistently getting a crash in a weirdly specific situation I never used to get a crash in. If I try to fight Thara with the boss buddy equipped while playing as any workshop character, the game loads everything but then just crashes when the match is supposed to start. I've never had this problem before despite fighting her this way dozens of times before. I posted the crash message below.

Hello people. I was wondering if somebody could explain poison to me. Preferably both versions of Thara.

This is cute, not scary!

@succ

I think I understand why the changes were made now, thank you. I'll test the smash attack disjoints more today. Still holding out for an up air buff.

Thank you for releasing classic Thara. I'll actually probably play both, but I think one really nice change would be the option to hold up special to teleport to a spider. Like MagicHobo suggested. Tap up-b to drop a spider like it does now, but if you hold it you teleport, would be nice because I really do think her recovery is too weak now.

[2/2] Beyond that, while I don't think the side-special should be cancellable as Zxilla does, I do think that having the venom debuff applied to n-special (and d-special with n-special) instead of side-special really screws up her old combo game. The old side-special functioned something like a combo reset to keep opponents heavy longer into high %'s, but n-special is a bit too for combos in most situations for the amount of range it has. You have to rely on poisoned spiderlings for such combos now, which take a fair amount of setup.

There are a couple of other minor problems (small u-air, b-air/d-air being too similar in use to one another, webs only functioning as disjointed smash attacks instead of being some kind of stage control), but I think these are the two most impactful problems in her current kit. Returning poison to her side-special grab while giving a special input for spiderling teleports (maybe by holding one of the special abilities) would greatly improve things.

[1/2] This rework made some great changes, I have to say, but I find myself distracted by two key design choices which really take away from the character.

The first & foremost of these is the lack of spiderling teleportation. Having been slowed down a great deal & having lost access to side-special cancels, Thara already suffers in the mobility department outside of niche spiderling side-special usage, and taking away one of her signature mobility options on top of these other changes makes her just feel sluggish. Plus it takes away from some potential spiderling intractability using f-tilt, which would've been fun to work with.
