Description
Many of the "named" recruits and even some major NPCs have completely random appearances - every game you play will have them with 100% random body and face sliders. This mod gives them consistent, unique appearances.

Some of the NPCs that already had presets have some issues, mostly with armor or weapons clipping into them (especially that Posture slider!), and most are not very unique looking at all, just average slider values and faces. I've tweaked a bunch of them to fix that.

Any well-known NPCs I altered still have their iconic appearance. Crumblejon retains his, er, crumbosity. Shryke is still, as the kids would say, hella thicc. Stuff like that.

!! VERSION 8 REQUIRES KENSHI VERSION 1.0.55 !!

If Steam pushed a version that doesn't work for you, click Change Notes there -> and "revert to this version" for the previous one that worked for you, because both LoFi and Steam are silly.

Adjustments were made mostly to reduce clipping and armor-texture tearing (no more feet poking through boots), giving character to faces that were all-zero sliders, etc. For example, Tinfist now has humungous fists, and is tall with wide shoulders. For others that had presets I made changes that make sense (Rane the Giant is now giant, Infinite Wingwang is now a freak, Hamut is more trim, muscular and grizzled, Crumblejon actually has that long beard you say he has when you meet him, etc.)

Here are the NPCs affected by this mod so far (see the Change Notes for specifics):

VERSION 8 - HERESY EDITION
=========
Bard
Beep
Burn
Cat (that dude you free from that place)
Crumblejon
Dack
Doctor Chung
Green
Griffin
Hamut
Horse
Infinite Wingwang
Izumi
Kang
Rane the Giant
Riddly
Ruka
Sadneil
Seto
Silvershade
Shryke
Tinfist
Green

Yeah that's right, I edited Beep. Default Beep was just clipping through too many normal, unaltered, vanilla armor pieces and I couldn't take it any more. He still has his essential Beepness, adjustments in his case were as minor as I could make them. One does not simply.... change Beep. Well, except the whole robot limb thing.

!! ONE WARNING OF NOTE !!

The only substantial change I made to an NPC that is not strictly visual is Tinfist. The Tin Fist is now his right hand - an enormous, scaled-up-huge Industrial Lifter fist. And to show it off better, he's wearing a Sleeveless Dustcoat, not the normal Dustcoat. Both of these things buff him. Anyone taking him on should already have been aware he was a badass and come prepared, but don't be surprised if he hits a bit harder now. With a silver fist the size of your head.

More updates coming as I finish more NPCs, enjoy!

Note: By request, Hobbs has his own mod, in two different versions -

Hobbs is Old (and Light-Skinned)
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2270896351

Hobbs is Old and Darker
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2274960101

.....it's pretty damn hard to make Hivers and Skeletons look distinct and unique, but I think I added some specific character to the ones I altered. Especially proud of Sadneil's jaded head-tilt posture.

Thank you very much for your answers! Your work is top-notch and I'm looking forward to what you do next with your mods.

(3) As for Izumi, I.... can't remember if my latest changes are in this upload o.O I've made further tweaks to several characters, Izumi I seem to recall being mainly the face, but I've been trying to keep changes on hold until this version mismatch nonsense is resolved (it's been on Experimental for bloody EVER >.< ). I've also discovered that quite a bit of armor's mesh seems to be way, WAY outside the character's boundaries... the Ninja Rags are the worst offender, you can look at a rail-thin character with a zero stomach slider, and put the Ninja Rags on while looking at them from the side, and suddenly they have a magic potbelly o.O. I've been making a pass over..... everythihng.... x_x..... for clipping issues, and some of those fixes are in Faction Armor Colors Already, but there's still a long way to go.

(2) However, if you do an import, I *believe* that anyone who's still an NPC (not recruited) *will* get the changes, since the import process regenerates and respawns everything as if the game was starting fresh (except for your research, base, dead major NPCs etc. as defined by those option checkboxes on the import screen.)

So,

TL;DR - Ruka's safe and won't change, Kang and Rane should update with an import.

=)

(1) Hey there, thanks for the info! Your Let's Play is safe; an NPC's preset is only used when they are spawned. The NPC's definition in the dev tool, that defines their stats, location, faction, etc., also has an optional place to define a file of appearance slider presets. If this is set, then when the character is spawned, this file is used to set their appearance and they're saved that way in the game. So anyone you've already recruited will never access that file again. By the same token, anyone you HAVEN'T recruited but has already been spawned in the world will NOT change either when you activate this mod, since again, the file won't be accessed for them any more - once they exist, the game doesn't care what the preset was.

Also, I appreciate your efforts to make Izumi look young (although I haven't found her in game yet). I don't know how young she's actually supposed to be, but someone managed to make a "little girl" preset you might be able to use for inspiration if you want to de-age her even further: https://www.nexusmods.com/kenshi/mods/210

Of course, she'll probably still end up looking weird if she gets too beefy, and this preset does actually look even younger than I think Izumi is supposed to be, but maybe this can be useful if you decide to tweak her proportions a little more.

Hey, I came back to this after I learned about the issue with Experimental compatibility, thinking that might have been what happened after all. nice, so now I know how to fix it lol. I'm going to move to Experimental anyway because I want your other mods, so it looks like time to reinstall this one.

HOWEVER since I wasn't using it, will it affect characters I recruited already? My only unique recruit is Ruka, and I got her without the mod active, so will she update automatically? I also found Kang and Rane but didn't recruit them yet, but I figure they'll probably update with an import, and I'll be importing anyway.

The thing is, I'm doing a Let's Play, and if Ruka's look changes too much it might break my continuity unless I can work it into the story somehow. So if my having already recruited her means she won't get the custom appearance, I don't really mind. I'm going to install it anyway and see what happens, I just want to know what SHOULD happen so I know what's working.

After a couple of decades working in IT my problem tends to be having more redundant copies of things than I really have space for :]

oof.wav

I'd recommend then keeping sourcefile backups then stored locally. I'm trying to get into the habit of doing that myself.

I have been informed on the Kenshi discord that the install cannot be downgraded properly. Meaning I would have to rip out and reinstall the game - meaning i would then not have the correct game or FCS version to edit my own mods correctly - meaninig everything's basically fucked until 1.0.55 goes stable.

This is why I hate the Workshop. On Nexus all previous versions are always available and if a new mod version has a showstopper, you just roll back to the previous. Can't do that here.

It would also be helpful if the kenshi devs would warn us when an update breaks the FCS backwards compatability, which has never happened before x_x

oh well.
